I believed the 06 has this capability. Better off looking at aftermarket, I have a Blaupunkt dvd player that does MP3 and is using that in conjunction with my factory 6 disc unit.

Oh, it has the aux jack. My son listens to his MP3 in it so I don't know anything about that. He plugs it in and listens to his music and that is the sum total of my knowledge of this

i believe the 04 and 05 armadas head unit is not capable of playing mp3s. to burn mp3s just start copying as DATA not music and it should play on any mp3 player capable.

Okay, just ran an experiment with my '05 LE with Bose 6CD. Mp3 data disc would play but no sound and would not change tracks(bottom line doesn't work), CD's made from protected sound files from itunes play but do not display info. CD's made from true MP3 or WMA sound files will play and display properly formatted ID3 tags. Tinkering around a bit more some of my store bought CD's would display info and some would not(likely copy protection). Nonetheless the ones that did display any info would not "marquee" the titles they just show a static name for the selected track(boring). Although limited the stock HU isn't great but it isn't that bad either. In all I guess it just matters what's important for you!!

You have to understand that when a system states that it supports mp3,wma etc etc it is stating that it will play music that you have dwnld on to your cpu and burned them to a CD. MP3 format is the same as what you dwnld. When you use Itunes,Napster and any other Music site and you pay a monthly fee for unlimited dwnld you are actually getting a wma type format. When you pay for it you get the RIGHTS to it. (License) That way you can burn them to a CD. This keeps people from Burning a Whole album and selling it bootlegged.

I have musicmatch and I am able to burn a cd with the music I dwnld from Limewire or from a bought cd and add the name of the artist and title of the song. I think Itunes does this also. If you use your AUX on the Mada all you get is input for sound. You want more than that. Here are 2 choices. Change you HU. Or look for the add on from Harmon/Kardon. http://www.cardomain.com/item/HARDP1US?ref=5c27

I hope this helps.

What Burner pgm do you use. If the MP3 is PAID for you can edit but I have never been able to burn WMA from Napster unless i paid for it. And I hate the fact that you have to dock your MP3 player to get your dwnlds REregistered. Your screwed if you are away for a week or two and all your songs are free dwnlds and do not have your laptop.

Ok folks when i say MP3 disc that hold about 140 songs on the disc not 20 i download music with morpheus and when i make a audio cd disc nero converts the mp3's or i should say decompress the mp3 so only 20 songs will fit like a normal audio cd, An Mp3 disc holds as i said 140 or more what im trying to figure out is how are those that say their HU plays MP3s how many songs are on the CD they are saying has Mp3s

any information would be great before i purchase another (06) HU as i to keep the stock look and aux port with my ipod is terrible and clumsy

My 04 plays the cd's that I burn on my computer. Some of them will display the name and artist and some will not. The title scrolls across sometimes two lines and then the artist's name. Then I can change cd's and it just says CD 1 and what track it is. Why is that? My son can plug his MP3 into the aux jack on the dash and he can listen to that but he's never burned anything from the MP3.

No 04 or 05 stock HU plays mp3's. The hu's will play burned CD's recorded as a audio CD. When you record a CD in audio format you will be lucky to get 20 songs on a disk. If it's recorded in a data format then you should be able to get 150-200 mp3s on a CD. So when you say your HU plays mp3's how many songs are on the disk?

There should be no reason why you can't get an 06 HU and put it in an earlier model. I don't have the 06 or 05 service manual but I highly doubt that they changed the wiring and the mp3 capability is an internal feature.

If you don't like running wires to the AUX jack (I don't either) take and splice into the wire behind the dash and put a jack in the plate located behind the shifter.

I Stand corrected! I never even heard of a MP3 disc. Go figure and I'm an ex DJ.

I say Try the Harmon. You can have it mounted in the coin tray on drivers side and the cables will be hidden.

WMA's from napster are the protected version and you must use the burning program provided by napster to create CD's from your downloads. When burning CD's from plain old non-protected Mp3's I use Nero, however, since most of my music these days comes from Itunes I have to use there proprietery software to make CD's. For the most part I just use my IPOD. Not familiar with the players used with Napster but I can tell you the IPOD can be set to automatically update when connected to the computer and will play music stored on the device anytime you want.

According to the Nissan literature the 2006 radio will play mp3 encoded disks. To check it out, I made a mp3 disk. Songs from original CD's were converted to mp3 files then burned onto a CD. Put 146 songs on the disk with some room to spare.
Took the radio (the version in the SE-OR) a moment to recognize the format - mp3 was displayed - then it took off and started playing. Figure 150 songs per disk times 6 disks equals 900 songs. That's about 45 hours of music. Not bad.

dave - time to burn some more disks :)

How much does the 06 HU go for? If it is around $200, I plan to put it in my budget and switch it once I have the $$$. :)
