: I thought the Armada was fast..... but this is Faster!!
WILDnPHX 01-02-2006, 11:23 PM Ok, I took the 05 Armada into the dealer today to find out why the front diff breather tube was spitting out fluid and they said they need to keep it overnight because the ABS brake acutuator was the problem. So I go to Enterprise to get me a free loaner and I tell them nothing American as I have nightmere's about breaking down in american made crap. So I got a Titan nothing fancy just a XE 2 wheel drive. On the way home from Enterprise I pulled up to a light and setting next to me are a newer F350 Ford and newer Chevy Desiel all souped up with a big exhaust and Banks Stickers on the side. It appeared like the two of them were going to race so I invited myself into the race and when the light changed they hammered it and I did also but I had to look in the rear view mirror to see them as I just pulled away from them like they were sitting still. The ford lost by a long ways and the Chevy was about 2-3 car lenghts behind me when I got to the next light. The Chevy guy looked over at me and did a little break torqe (not willing to admit that he lost) so the light changed green and I smoked him again. It was so funny seeing the base XE truck just pull away from that guy, I am sure he is about to drop a couple more grand on performance goodies on the chevy as he was not very happy that I beat him. :) fun with rentals.....
92TripleBlack 01-02-2006, 11:45 PM Not surprised. ;)

Eclipse_Man 01-03-2006, 03:06 PM Lovely! I did that yesterday with a guy in a new GTO, he had me off the line, but there is a slight weight difference!! :p At any rate, he stayed in it and was not able to pull away from the 6200 lbs beast. Needless to say I was happy as punch when i pulled up next to him at the next light and he and his woman friend were arguing. ( maybe she was upset that he was racing a huge SUV and then didn't walk away from me?!) At any rate, Happy New Year to everyone, here's to another year of Endurance motors and tranny's proving their worth!
scr38 01-03-2006, 03:52 PM Actually, in Car and Driver and other car magazine tests, the Armada is slightly quicker than the Titan. Probably because of the added weight on the rear, which helps eliminate wheel spin. With no wheel spin VDC and NTC don't cut back the engine power.
Eclipse_Man 01-03-2006, 05:06 PM Are the two geared any different? I don't know the actual gear ratio for the two so maybe that would explain the difference? Though the lack of wheel spin would definately help for quicker times. :D

Both the Titan and the Armada have two available gear ratios. The Big Tow and Off Road on both have a 3.36 ratio; the non Big Tow/Off Road have 2.93.

Lets not get too carried away...
The '04 GTO has 350 hp ~ 5.3 sec 0-60mph
The '05/'06 GTO has 400 hp ~ 4.8 sec 0-60mph
I have an Armada and don't have a GTO but if the GTO wasn't pulling away from you he either wasn't trying or had no idea how to drive. You are not going to stay with a competently operated GTO.
Armada 01-03-2006, 07:26 PM Yeah, GTO must not have known you were racing or must have been in need of service. More horses than us in a much lighter body . . . doesn't add up. Sorry.
Eclipse_Man 01-03-2006, 07:42 PM Do you know what option the test vehicles had?
Eclipse_Man 01-03-2006, 07:45 PM Not at all adds up easily, 6 speed manual transmission, inexperience, turned the wheels at the light, I launched better. Even though I launched better, it made up the difference if he would have launched right, I probably would have never kept up.

With that math--glad your not my accountant. In your post you said he had you off the line and failed to pull away. Only makes sense if the race was from 0-30ish where he could still be spinning the tires. Even a "special" person could beat the Armada/Titan with a newer GTO. These two are not even remotely comparable in the performance department and I don't really care for the GTO but hp is hp.
92TripleBlack 01-04-2006, 06:12 PM Maybe if he missed a shift you'd end up about the same at around 60mph. ;)
Eclipse_Man 01-04-2006, 06:17 PM Isn't that the point? The GTO is obviously a much more powered lighter vehicle, but I have the wife as a witness ;) Far as I know he missed every gear he went for...I don't care either way, made my day, and I think ruined his, that's fun enough. I've street raced cars all my life, this was a fluke, and I hope eveyone understands it, but when racing, HP is not HP, racing has reaction times, launch, and hitting the gears, Car could have had a million HP if you don't transfer it to the ground and keep it that way, you could lose to a yugo. My mada hauls my family and groceries very well, and it's a blast to drive, I didn't buy it to it to race, but it's fun to play

The GTO wasn't racing you. I have a BMW M3 with very similar performance numbers, I could blow you away in reverse!

Similar numbers? Try at least 40 HP more then you and a whole lot less money! :D Driven the M3, nice car, but I bought the S4, GTO is not even in the same class, but that's my opinion. GTO couldn't corner anywhere near the Germans, let alone that GM cars are famous for having sloppy stearing. Love the vette's, but unless you are in a Z06 the steering always felt unresponsive compared to an German or even Japanese made sports car.
Oh ya, the rev limiter would hurt you racing in reverse, I don't recommend it... ;)

I have raced a GTO(350hp) at the track 2 runs in my Max 04 Auto SE. I won  one he won the other 2 car lenghts.
I believe I trapped between 14.9- 15.1 and his where about the same.
I haven't taken the Armada to the track but I will.

I once raced an M3 with a loaner 05 g35, so heres the story. I was hauling *** in the g35 bringing it to 120 constantly so i get on the bridge and decide to give her the beans again so in no time im at 120 and hold it for quite a ways. I see traffic up ahead so i slow down to 80 accelerate and pull into an opening to pass the slower traffic. I end up behind an m3 cabrio(top down) at 90. He decides to try and pull away but i draft behind him and floor it once we get passed the traffic i pull into the left lane and go for the pass. I was going seriously fast but i kept my foot in it and up until 140 i was leading him (about 2 1/2 car lengths ahead) and then he just let up. O yea i had 3 people in the car.Im not trying to say anything im just telling my story. So i dont get yelled at - dont every race its bad, dont race with people in the car its worse just drive like a granny any everything will be fine.
Rossi 01-07-2006, 01:56 PM I have a buddy at work that has an 05 GTO....I think this thing runs low 13's stock....
Lot's of power...but man....not very sporty looking....
92TripleBlack 01-07-2006, 04:29 PM Yeah, the current GTO has the LS2 motor. The first one had the LS1 motor. Thre's about a true 70 hp increase. Makes a huge difference. The current one runs like a rapped ape. ;)
SilverQShip 01-07-2006, 05:07 PM I would buy one
armoody 01-09-2006, 01:56 AM I would buy one
I would rent one (come on, its a Pontiac, after all!) :D
SilverQShip 01-09-2006, 02:15 AM You got a point there :D , anything American will be unreliable lol.
VeeTec 01-09-2006, 01:15 PM The Armada has nothing on the GTO, whether it's an LS1 or LS2.
I plan on going to the track soon though, well, not so much for the Armada, but for my Z, but the Armada will be there. I am sure it will make a high 14 second pass in cool weather, as it ran low 15's in 100+ degree heat.
It's definitely the quickest large SUV on the market, and it does catch people off guard.

Ahh , yes, nothing in a drag race but so many other virtues to consider...
Post your numbers please after you run. Pretty nuts that you may be breaking 15 seconds in this giant utility unit!

Its not that hard to break 15 sec. My best time is 14.69.

Yes, my comment about nuts was more along the lines of a general comment on how much power you can now drive right off the showroom floor ( in a base trim no less) these days.
GUAM PATH 01-12-2006, 11:29 PM Ive beat a titan with my stock pathfinder. Ide bet a hundred dollars that a pathfinder will beat an armada.
