New to website. When you go under the "Members" tab, there's a column marked "reputation". I just joined yesterday. What does that mean?

Thanks

So, I'll try again in 24 hrs.:D , if I missed any of the active members please let me know.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE USING THE REPUTATION SYSTEM!!!

If you notice in the right corner of a persons post you will see a little gray square or a red square or a green square. Sometimes you will see several of them. The way this system works is if you find a post by a member that is helpfull and informative click the scale icon above the squares and check that you approve and leave a comment if you want. Then click submit. This builds that person's reputation up and lets others know this person is helpfull and a good poster. Likewise if someone is anoying and posts are useless or rude you can say you dont approve and leave a comment and then submit. This will let others know how this member is as well. I notice this is rarely used and I have tried to start using it more myself. So if you see a helpfull post from someone please add to their reputation. Make sure you do not abuse this system. People found abusing will have points removed. This is a tool to help acknowledge the people who are really helpfull. You can only give out rep 2 times in 24 hours so save it for the real important posts. Its a reward just remember that.
THanks

Those rules will apply and anyone found abusing the system will be punished. If you notice you have received some bad reputation points then let a moderator know. We can fix it and we can also punish for it. I am also trying to refine how the points work. Members who have been here a long time are able to give more points than a newbie. Its all about members giving other members reputation. You can even look at mine. I have little reputation because not many people have left any rep for me. Not that I'm worried if I really wanted I could give myself 10000 points. LOL but that wouldnt be fair.

Here is a breakdown of the Reputation Points ranking.

User is infamous around these parts -999999
User can only hope to improve -50
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past -10
User is an unknown quantity at this point 0
User is on a distinguished road 10
User will become famous soon enough 50
User has a spectacular aura about 150
User is a jewel in the rough 250
User is just really nice 350
User is a glorious beacon of light 450
User is a name known to all 550
User is a splendid one to behold 650
User has much to be proud of 1000
User has a brilliant future 1500
User has a reputation beyond repute 2000

Here is some more info on how the reputation system is set up. I am still messing with this so it may change. I want to reward long time members.

For registering you get 1 point
If an admin or mod gives or removes points its 50 a click.
For every 60 days since registration you get 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For every 50 posts you get 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For every 50 points of reputation you gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
Members must have 20 posts before their reputation hits count on others.
Members must have 10 points before their reputation hits count on others.
There is a limit of 10 reputation clicks a member can give over a 24 hour period. Admins are exempt from this.
You must give reputation to 3 different users before you can hit the same person again. Admins are exempt from this also.

Hope this helps and I will try to improve on this point system as I understand it more.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note that reputation is given only on the merits of a post. It is not given because you like a member, think he or she is funny, etc. If a member makes a post that is very helpful, answers a question, brings good new info to CA, etc then you may want to give positive reputation. On the other hand if someone makes a post that is very offensive, off color, makes a personal attact, etc, then you may want to give negative reputation.
Please understand the system before you use it.

Hmmm... I wonder if the reputation thing really is worth the effort, though. To me, it's readily apparent whether I should pay attention to somebody's talk or not.
