: Towing the toy
ToyHauler 01-21-2006, 11:55 PM Just thought you might want to see what I will be towing with Armada. The most I have towed with it so far is pulling the trailer out so I could unload the car. That being said, the backup camera is GREAT! I was able to line up in one shot. I do know that I need a new ball mount as the trailer is pitched back slightly with this one. I did confirm that the load levelling suspension is functional.
92TripleBlack 01-22-2006, 12:45 AM My friend, my old college roomate, who autocrosses a honda like that would be proud of you. I usually send him this though. ;)

Just playing, but it is too funny not to use. :D
ToyHauler 01-22-2006, 11:20 PM Actually I think it takes some real skill to get a lawnmower to go that fast. :D

inqui-Z-tor 01-22-2006, 11:59 PM Nice .. thank you for your thread AND your "nick/handle" ...
I want a toy hauler .. but I'll admit I'm a complete newbie/rookie as to what to look for .. and what to get ... (except I know I want a Class IV/WD hitch ball setup ..
Anyway .. here are pics of my "toy" .. not a trailer queen, but I do want to trailer her for long hauls (it's a pain driving 2 vehicles to events .. family in 1, me in the Z). Long hauls = 600+ miles in 1 direction. This year I'm planning on a 1200 mile round trip .. follow'd by a 3400 mile round trip a few months later ...

My concern is being able to load/unload w/o damaging the body work?
Any trailer recommendations? (others please your recommendations too)
IF I rent a trailer .. what else should I get .. straps (please as I said, I'm a newbie) .. harness's, etc ..
While I'd be interested in an enclosed unit, I know they are more costly .. so an open trailer .. but I'm un-decided over .. full floor or rails (??) ..
Thanks .. and please "flamers" .. take it easy .. I explained I'm a newbie ..
jcvader99 01-23-2006, 12:02 AM I am loving the Honda racer... Funny, my second car in high school/college was an 85 civic just like that one, but silver over grey two-tone. I even modded it with upgraded "accord" plastic OEM hubcaps, a sweet SuperTuner III Pioneer AM/FM/Cass, 100w pioneer 4x6's, and a 400 watt eq/amp I bought at the flea market.
Brings back alot of good memories... that Honda was much faster parked on the back roads with my girl than it ever was on the streets.

Pray tell what kind of "events" is that thing trailered to...

I would imagine a car show since that's one hot looking vintage "Z-car!"

I rented a trailer from Uhaul. It was a 4 wheel car carry trailer. I got my lowered vette on it without messing up the bodywork. You should be fine. Class 3 tow. http://www.uhaul.com/guide/?equipment=autotransport ;)
ToyHauler 01-23-2006, 09:30 AM Very NICE toy, inqui-Z-tor. I haven't seen one that nice in a long time. As far as a trailer, most of the people I race with use an 18 - 21' trailer. For a show car, I would pick a closed deck. Make sure the ramps are long enough so the approach angle is not too steep. A tilt bed trailer is another option. My trailer and the one at work are tilt beds. The only extra thing I have to carry is a couple of board so the front bumper doesn't scrape (the car sits very low). As for straps, I use 10000lb. ratcheting tie down straps ($100/set of 4 at Northern Tools).
jcvader99 - Sounds like you had a Civic S. I count vouch for how fast they are "parked" but I do know what they can do on the track.

jcvader99 01-23-2006, 10:36 AM Yep... I had the "S" model. Loved that car. And actually, I did burn a few toyotas on the back roads around home with it. Your's looks like it can hold its own on the track!
Just for grins, here is a pic of what I was driving back in the day... (found a stock photo online)...

LOL ..
MotorSport Auto .. in SoCAL .. hosts annual West Coast Z Car Nationals .. about 600 miles 1-way from my home town. It occurs every April. [edit: In 2005 .. over 500 Z's were there .. and it rained almost all week prior .. keeping many away. The year before 700+ Z's were at the show!]
This year .. late May/early June .. is International Z Car Convention .. Dallas, TX area ... 1700 miles 1-way estimated ... [edit: I went to the ZCON in Los Angeles in '04. International flavor w/Z's from all over the world there.]
I'd rather tow and ride w/family ...
92Tripleblack ... thanks .. I'll have to scout around regarding local u-hauls .. I've heard horror stories .. in that u-hauls tend to rent away a trailer when a deposit has already been paid??
ToyHauler .. thanks for the kind words .. she's mine .. and I'm original owner .. "closedeck" .. ahh that's the terminology .. yes, its what I prefer .. 10,000# straps .. edit: What brand trailer do you use?
All information is appreciated!
ToyHauler 01-24-2006, 09:46 PM I found these on a quick search.

I purchased my trailer used and is a "homemade" trailer. Companies like Texas Bragg and Load-Trail make various types of car carrier trailers.
HTH
inqui-Z-tor 01-25-2006, 09:16 AM Thanks for the info/link .. whether I purchase or rent .. I plan to buy my own straps (and you knew I wanted blue ones, eh?)
I'll have to research the local trailer places to see what brands they carry ...
Thanks again for all the help!
Nav400 01-25-2006, 01:21 PM I raced SCCA in the SM "Spec Miata" series a few years ago. Had a great time and realized what limited driving talent and funds I really do have. Enjoy yourself, there are few ways to spend money and lower self-esteem faster than being a part-time SCCA racer. I overshot my budget by about 600%, tires, body work, trans, and go fast parts add up faster than I ever could have imagined. Turns out that 13th place in a series doesn't even get a participation ribbon.....
ToyHauler 01-29-2006, 08:59 PM Finally got to test the truck's towing ability, 620 mile round trip between VA and WV to pick up a friend's race car. Let me just say this: AWESOME! Truly AWESOME!
Averaged 13.1mpg with an unloaded trailer (2100 lbs.) through the mountains, and 12.3mpg with the race car & trailer (4600lbs.). The truck only shifted into 3rd twice on the return trip. Not once did I even feel the trailer back there, even with strong crosswinds. I was able to make it WV on one tank and back on one tank.
Boy I am glad the wife wanted this truck! :D
