Well after almost 2 years of *****ing about the flat angle of the passenger seat I finally got around to fixing it. I didn't take any photo's while I was doing it but it's not complicated.

I went to Lowes and got 2 #8 1.25x40mm bolts, 4 5/16x1-1/4" fender washers, 4 #8 1.25 nuts and a couple lock washers...and I should of also grabbed a couple #8 flat washers.

There are two gold colored bolts located under the seat holding the front of the seat bottom to the seat frame. They probably have white paint on top of them. You need to unbolt the seat from the floor and unhook the wire harnesses under the seat and tip the seat back to get to them, use a 12mm socket to remove them. I then taped two nuts together so they would thread on easily and not separate. Put the bolt with #8 locking and flat washers on the bolt then put the bolt through the swivel that the gold bolts went through and then on the other side of the swivel put a fender washer thread on the nuts and top off with another fender washer and start threading it into the seat bottom. You will probably need to run the nuts up or down the bolt so that when you have everything tight they are sitting where they need and you can't move any of the washer when tight. This will raise the front of the cushion about an inch and is much more comfortable.

This was my second attempt. I first tried a 50mm long bolts and 4 nuts, this raised the seat probably 1.5" which for my 5'-10" body felt like I was sitting too high. The shorter bolts and 2 nuts fill much more comfortable.

Sorry for the convoluted how-to but I think if you are brave enough to pick up a socket wrench you can figure out what needs to be done. I can't see that this mod will jeopardize the safety of the seat. Others have put spacers under the seat frame at the floor which I wouldn't advise since it will create additional moment arm length and the bolts could tear out of the floor in an accident or over time weaken the floor due to fatigue...like when you bend a wire many times. Don't turn on the key when you have the seat harnesses undone or you will probably need to reset the airbag light. I didn't do it but you might want to unhook the negative cable and wait 3 minutes before unhooking the harnesses as I guess there could be a possibility of causing a short and set off the airbag.

Will this work on the Drivers side? Got mine adjusted all the way up and back and I still feel like the seat does not provide enough support under my legs and feels like I'm leaning forward.

Put some Loctite on the treads to help keep the nuts secure. Maybe its me, but I always like my nuts to be secure. ;)

I like mine to be a little free. With that said don't worry about Loctite, as long as you have a lock washer its fine. Thats all they used at the factory.

I've had my Armada since 2004, and hated the front seats since new (just couldn't get the tilt). I tried some washers under the front mounts, but i was too nervous to drive it like that, so i just left it for 115,000 Km's....deading every Km (this was my biggest piss off on this vehicle).

Anyways, did your modd with two nuts, and it's perfect now!!!!!!! Very similar to Ford/Chevy full size trucks now (as far as the seat tilt goes).

Thanks for the idea! Even though this is an old post and I was a member back then and I just got around to doing this mod. Very easy! 15min to do. Much better feel to the seat.

I posted this solution back in '04. Someone said it might be dangerous. I have 78K miles on the truck and have never been sorry I did it.

An early complaint with these vehicles was that the front seats were tilted too far forward, even with the bottom of the seat tilted as far back as possible. This was worse on the passenger seat, since there is no way to change the tilt of the seat base. Lifting the front of the seat base made it feel less like you were going to be thrown out.

I'm not sure I follow what the issue is......:confused:

The Driver's Seat has Tilt features and the Passenger Seat doesn't. To leave enough leg room for my kids, I tilt the front all the way up and the rear all the way down so I don't have to keep the seat slid all the way back and can leave my kids some space to move their legs around.

When I ride in the passenger seat, I have to slide it all the way back and my knees are still close to the glove box and it feels like I'm leaning forward compared to the drivers seat.

So, with Lonnie's mod, I could prop the passenger seat to compensate for the lack of tilt and ride comfortably. Unfortunately fo me though, my wifey wouldn't be comfortable with it because she's a bit shorter than I am.

I'd have to agree and the "roomiest seats on the market" is nice but not always enough. I measured my height last week at 1/8" under 6'2" and my 12-yr old son is now 5'11". Keep in mind that I'm the shortest man on my side of the family, and my grandmother stood almost eye to eye with me. My nephew is a little over 6'2" and my bro-in-law is 6'3". So unless it's a Limo, we can tend to get a little cramped at times when riding in just about anything. :D

My son (12yrs old) is wearing size 11-D shoes right now so I seriously doubt he's finished growing yet. :rolleyes:
