I have a 04 Armada that I got new just last week. It has everything(Nav and all)but it doesn't have Sat radio, where the button should be it says AUX. Can I switch the Head unit that I have with one that has sat and install xm in my car? has anyone done this? and where did you get the radio from. I've talked to a nissan part deportment but they just give me the run around, but I think that you can do it. Does anyone know?

You can get a Sat kit here (http://www.grubbsperformance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=999U9) for about $300 with free activation and 3 months service. I know there is a person selling a new kit for $300 also but with free activation and 1 year subscription to XM. If you have a later model the kit plugs right in to your existing stereo and the radio or FM button cycles to SAT once you install the kit.

Directions are included, I believe the wiring is already run in later models but you still have to install the external antenna.

contemplated Sirius for Howard's big move but I am not the primary driver on the Armada and my wife usually listens to her fav local stations instead.

As far as how it connects/displays on the nav screen that is a good question. If you follow the link to Grubb's website, look up their number and call them, they are usually very helpful.

I understand your situation because I was in the same boat as you. I went Sirius and bought my OEM setup at my dealer. Here's the lowdown in detail....

All 04 Armada's and up are pre-wired for both XM and Sirius.

If you go XM...

You will need to buy the xm tuner, antenna, antenna extension harness, and after a certain VIN number you don't have to buy the tuner mounting bracket. I can't find the website that had the VIN info but I needed it for my Armada to mount the tuner in the stock location next to the Bose amp. You can mount it under the steering column so you don't have to remove the accelerator assembly, but for me I did it right and went through the whole process.

As far as your headunit is concerned, Once you hook up the satellite tuner, just keep pressing the radio button and sat will appear as the headunit will sense that you have a sat tuner connected. Befor it's connected, it will only cycle through am and fm so your ok there.

The display will show you station, artist and song title but not at the same time. If you need help PM me and I'll give you my cell number.

that's my question. I think with the Navi models they don't have a 'head-unit' display per se. All info is displayed on the multi-function navi screen including radio info right? So if this is correct I am not sure how SAT info is conveyed on the screen.

Your right. I don't have the Nav setup and forgot you don't have a display except for the Navi screen. Sorry....That would have to be answered by a Navi-sat person.

NO.... All 'o4 Armadas are NOT prewired for SAT. I had to buy and install a harness for my 10/03 prod Armada. Don't know when they saterted to prewire, but believe it was March 04 or so.

Thanks my nav shows everything that my radio would show. So I'm think that I'm just going to get the parts and try it out. I talked to nissan dealer the other day, and you would of thought that I said something bad about her mother. So no help there.

Ok so I have just ordered every part that I would ever need plus some that I don't think I need to get this done. Will see if it works for not.

So I have taken it to the shop today. To get everything installed. They have been working on it for a few hours now and I should be getting it back soon. When I get it back I will post about how it works and my set up and everything. I'm hoping that it will work the way that I want it.

Ok so I just got it back. My armada is with the bose radio and the nav system. It works just as I wished. On the nav screen it tells me the station number then if I hit the right channel turner on the radio it will tell me station name, artist, song name, things like that. I had a xm after market radio in my old truck and this one pretty much works the same. O and on a personnel note. If you are thinking of xm or sirus. I rented a car one time with sirius in it. and sirius sucks!!!.. ;)

If you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost to have it installed?

Well without pulling out sales tickets. I would have to say 600. That is parts and install. Install takes about 3 to 4 hours. It is not as easy as one would think, but it isn't bad I've read from other people that have done it themself. Install cost around 344. They didn't mount my antenna Where it says in the install book. The shop guy at nissan called and asked me if it would be ok and I said sure. It is in the inside not the outside and I think I like it alot better. If you have anymore question just ask. Terry.

I bought an '04 Armada about two months ago. It has the "standard" radion/CD set-up (that is, no Navigation screen). Are you saying I can add an XM turner and have it play through my head? I'd like sat radio, but don't want to add one of those units sold at Radio Shack or some other electroncis store, the kind that broadcast to an FM frequency. Thanks.

Yes you can put SAT in the Armada. You may or may not have the wiring harness in place. My 10/03 prod did not. It's not difficult, but a time consuming process, since you have to take apart enough of the interior to install the harness. Grubbs sell lots of SAT parts and can fix you up.

hi, new to the forum, just got a black 2005 Armada LE to replace a 03 Landrover (CRAP!). In any case, I am an existing XM subscriber and wanted to get this integrated in my new truck. My idiot dealer basically told me that if the truck did not come with XM from the factory, you could not add it on.
:clueless:
Needless to say, 15 minutes on the 'net landed me much more accurate information. anyway, I came across this link which seems to be specifically written for installing XM in an Armada (whereas some of the others I've seen are for Titan trucks and other Nissan cars). if anyone else is looking to do this themselves, it looks pretty simple.
