Apparently if there is faulty or in properly wired trailers a fire in the cab of the truck can result. Not good. Not sure how many have caught fire but I’m sure a few. I would imaging the conditions have to be just right. I can tell you one thing when I mounted my brake controller I noticed they use 14 gauge wire on the harness for the controller and what appears to be 14 for the charge wire to the rear 7 pin. This to me seems very thin for this application. I would always run atleat 12 but prefer 10 with either a 20 or 30 Amp fuse.

I too thought the charge line was much too small. I replaced it with 10 with a 30 amp fuse.

The factory fuse is 30 amps, so I am sure the factory wire size is OK for that much current.

Just because it is a 30 Amp fuse one should not assume all is ok. Notices were sent out due to a possibility of fire if there is faulty wiring on the trailer. That alone sounds like wiring that is not properly fused in the tow vehicle. The charge line is not 10g which is 30 amp wire, it is 14 gauge. The brake wire should be 12 gauge and it is 14 as well. This wire is without question over fused being 14 gauge with a 30 Amp fuse.

Continental came right out and said, "No, they're not what you need", NHTSA is investigating the report and of course Nissan says "no Problem". We were advised to call Nissan and NHTSA and open claims so that if this goes any further we have documentation of the issue. Here are the numbers. That's good to know. Thanks! Even though I have changed my wheels and tires, I still have the originals and hopefully some type of recall or replacement will happen.
