: Navigation Monitor Housing
MacFly 10-07-2004, 01:17 AM ok, here's my dilema!
i do not have a navigation system in my '04 aramada. what i would like to do is, i would like to purchase the navigation screen housing so that i can use it to mount a 7' monitor inside it.
i went into my dealership and they told me that in order to buy that housing, i would need to buy the complete housing; which includes the naviagation screen for $1,195!!!
my question is, has anyone had success in purchasing just the housing itself?!?

Sounds like a good idea, I hope it can be done for a lot less cause I would be interested in doing it as well.

jyruiz 10-09-2004, 02:23 AM What is the size of the navigation monitor?
MacFly 10-09-2004, 02:25 AM What is the size of the navigation monitor?
i believe it's a 7".
does anyone out there have a NAV that can actually measure the monitor for us?!
jyruiz 10-09-2004, 02:27 AM 7" widescreen? I hope it is cause I can get one that size for free.
llajumpvid 10-09-2004, 10:13 AM 7" widescreen? I hope it is cause I can get one that size for free.
that's what it is.
jyruiz 10-09-2004, 01:39 PM Cool deal.
umytbnext 10-10-2004, 06:14 AM Just to confirm - I want to add the Navigation system to my Armada as well. I want it to look factory - I don't want a Garmin unit stuck on the dash. Is there a kit from the factory that can be installed in my dash where the OEM equipment goes?
My Armada is a 2004 SE, I do have the DVD package, sunroof, but no nav.

where 'bouts in LA are you? maybe we can get this done together, kinda like a "group buy" so we can get a better deal!
when i got my Armada, i got them to throw in the factory add on alarm. so the guy came to my house to install it, real nice guy! we got to talkin and he said he's done an install just like what i'm lookin' for. 7" monitor with the OEM NAV housing and he "says" he can get the piece for around $150.
let's talk!

jyruiz 10-10-2004, 02:28 PM I don't have IAM. I am very interested in doing this mod though, find out from your guy to see what the deal would be and if it has to be a specific 7" monitor.

i've gone back and forth with him on it. i'll let you know! the thing that i'm most worried about is getting a decent tft monitor so that you can still view the monitor during daylight!
jyruiz 10-10-2004, 02:44 PM I have gotten the front windows tinted to help with that, only 20%, but it is better than nothing.
MacFly 10-10-2004, 02:48 PM I have gotten the front windows tinted to help with that, only 20%, but it is better than nothing.
how much did it cost you? i understand you only got 20%, but do the shade of tint match the rears?
jyruiz 10-12-2004, 01:48 AM It cost me $54.00 with uncle Sams part. It kind of matches but you can tell if you take the time to really look.
MacFly 10-12-2004, 02:49 PM What is the size of the navigation monitor?
The dimensions of the opening for the navigation screen are 6.25 x 3.5 inches
gnumike 10-13-2004, 06:09 PM Hey guys,
I'm also interested in doing this mod.
Let me know if you guys get any more information.
Thanks,

OffRoadinArmada 11-12-2004, 07:43 PM Sorry for bringing back a seemingly dead topic, but this is something that I have been looking to do since I bought mine. One question though, wouldn't you have to replace the radio since the controls are different? And is it possible that the system might be prewired for installing the nav kit, allowing full use (gas mileage, tire pressure, etc.)?

i'm only interested in putting a lcd monitor for watching movies, not have NAV functionalities.
i actually just got the housing from a buddy of mine! if anyone is interested, i can take pics when i get back from vacation. with hook up's and all, it only cost me $90!

MacFly 11-27-2004, 06:03 PM sorry guys!
i'm still out of town on business. i'll be getting home late tonight, so i will take some shots this wknd.
i finally got the housing and 3 monitors installed on my 'mada! it was a lil bit more involved as once thought, but the final product is beautiful!!
my 'mada is at the shop getting some final touches made and i will take pics of it later when i pick it up!
i needed to have the original radio bezel cut since the NAV housing sits lower in the well and the radio bezel extends, partially covering 20% (depending on your viewing angle) of the lower monitor. since the radio bezel is quite viewable, i had to take the bezel to a plastic machine shop so they can cut it clean & straight!
indresda 12-01-2004, 06:39 AM MAN!! i was wondering how that would work...Fantastic info .....thanks guys.
ARMADAinSMOKE 12-02-2004, 04:39 PM I really want to do this so I can have a screen up front. Any updates yet? I want soo how the dash looks with all the modifcations that had to be done to the bezel.
Any final prices on the bezel, cutting and whatever else was needed to mod the dash?
ARMADAinSMOKE 12-06-2004, 02:54 AM This is a clean install!!
MacFly 12-06-2004, 03:06 AM ok guys, here's the final product. and i gotta tell you, i am totally pleased with the final results!
just a few notes for those of you who's interested in this set up:
the radio bezel will need to be cut since the HAV housing sit a little lower and the radio bezel will cover roughly 20% of the lower part of the monitor. depending on your viewing angle. the cut was made with a sharp razor on a stable surface, then a dremel with a sander attachment was used to clean up the cut and round the edge.
play close attention to picking a monitor and how it fits the opening to the housing. i was lucky enough to find a audiovox that fits perfectly!
speaker that sits on the dah needed to be removed. the magnet on the speaker interfered and eventually would ruin the lcd/tft monitor. i'm in the process of looking for a non magnetic speaker, but as it stands now......i hardly notice a difference, minus one speaker.

OffRoadinArmada 12-07-2004, 02:39 AM That looks sharp as hell!! Can you give some pricing info and contact info for the company that did this for you? thx bro, i totally satisfied with the way it came out. i wanted to go for a "factory look" and i think i did pretty good!
as far as pricing info, i got the NAV housing for $90......hooked up by a buddy that was a GM, but recently left Nissan! sucks, cuz' i wanted other parts from him! lol
as far as who did the install, it's a company called West Coast Audio 909.548.2288. ask for STEVE, he's the General Mgr. tell him John with the white armada sent you! they don't have the best prices, but they do CLEAN work.....as you can see. when it's something this "cosmetic", i'd rather pay for the quality of work rather than saving a few bucks at the end.
regarding the radio bezel cutting, anyone can do. if you're handy with tools, you should be fine! i'm not, so i had to find someone that was. all he did was use a sharp razor, used a cushioned vice grip to secure the bezel to his work station.....then clamped on a straight edge to make a nice clean cut. after several passes, it broke off cleanly! he used a dremel with a sander tip to soften the cut and give it a nice, smooth look n feel! also, there are 3 "nubs" on the back side of the bezel where the cut needs to be made......he also used the sander to sand off the nubs. just be careful you don't sand all the way through the bezel!! this guy was totally cool, he did all of this for FREE!! since i'm in the fragrance/cosmetic industry, i hooked him up with a few bottles of cologne! :D
MacFly 12-07-2004, 03:12 AM and yes, i still have my plastic protecto cover over my digital display!! lol....it reminds me that my 'mada is still NEW!! :p
John,
That looks awesome!!!! Can you tell me what you needed to hook that monitor up to your DVD?
Thanks!![/QUOTE]
i had someone install it, so as far as specifics.....i couldn't tell you, sorry!
i did not have the factory DVD system, so i had a complete system installed. they were able to use an adapter so thta the AUX could be used for the DVD. at first, the sound was great.....but the volume level was way too low. at full blast, it was at medium level at best. so they did some research and was able to find some sort of inline amp to boost the sound......now i have the volume at 20, sounds awesome!
llajumpvid 12-07-2004, 12:11 PM You should have them tie into the factory dvd pre-wiring and then you will have the ability to use the steering wheel and rear controls to get to the audio...you'll still need the inline amp.
04armada 12-07-2004, 10:28 PM where 'bouts in LA are you? maybe we can get this done together, kinda like a "group buy" so we can get a better deal!

By chance you have the part # of the nav housing?
MacFly 12-07-2004, 11:39 PM You should have them tie into the factory dvd pre-wiring and then you will have the ability to use the steering wheel and rear controls to get to the audio...you'll still need the inline amp.
that's what they probably did, cuz' i can access the audio controls from both steering wheel and rear controls.
PumaFiveOh 12-08-2004, 07:44 PM That came out really sweet, congrats.
Does the top part of the new housing fit flush against the front bezel that you cut? I guess that might sound confusing, do you happen to have any pics from the top showing how the bezel fits to the new monitor housing.
I would also be interested in the part number (monitor housing) if you happen to have it. Or do you know where I would be able to purchase one from? Thanks!
bbplayajs 12-15-2004, 11:53 AM part # is 68257-7S500 at Nissan
I am also curious if it fits flush w/ the radio bessell that you cut... would like an overhead pic of where the two bessells connect/meet...

no, it is not flush! when i got it cut, i just cut off the part that was covering the monitor. i guess i could simple cut it some more so it sits flush to the navi "ledge", but its not that big of a deal for me. i will try to take pics and will keep you all posted.

Yeah if you get a chance to take pics that would help out a lot. I have the whole monitor housing already...but just waiting on possibly purchasing the 05 bezel and shifter cover since it now has a brushed aluminum look to it. Also, how did you get the screen mounted to the housing? Like a screw with brackets or hot glue or something?
EvilFett 01-04-2005, 11:09 PM Macfly I would like to check out your setup and the work that was done. I'm looking at doing the same and also adding a overhead and 2 headrest. I live in Hacienda Heights not 2 far from ya.

hope this answers some of the questions some of you have. as discussed before, i could have cut the radio bezel exactly where it meets the monitor "ledge".....but if the cut isn't perfectly straight, the straight edge of the ledge will magnify the imperfection.
PumaFiveOh 01-12-2005, 03:09 AM Thanks bro, that was PERFECT!! Now I know how it will look, and how I should cut mine. They did an awesome job on yours!
MacFly 01-12-2005, 02:07 PM Thanks bro, that was PERFECT!! Now I know how it will look, and how I should cut mine. They did an awesome job on yours!
you're welcome!
ya, they did a great job! i'm usually anal about lil things like that.....things being straight, clean cut; and it's perfect! otherwise, it would bother me to no end!!!
when you're done, take some pics and share!
bbplayajs 01-14-2005, 12:25 PM So, what you are saying is that you could have cut that radio bezel a little lower and it would have met the Nav bezel perfectly? Cuz that is what I am going to do. I am very picky when it comes to stuff like that, who knows why... I want it to fit flush... since you didnt cut yours as low as the stock Nav radio bezel is, do you or your passengers (in back) have a hard time seeing the very bottom of the screen?
overall, it looks great though... sorry for all the questions..

exactly what i'm saying. it's only a matter of an inch or inch 1/2 more before it meets with the NAV ledge. but like i said, just as long as you make a perfectly straight cut, then it'll be fine. otherwise, the factory cut straight ledge edge will magnify any imperfections placed against it.
both front and rear middle passengers don't have a hard time seeing the full screen. if that were the case, i would've made the needed adjustments. plus, i have two headrest monitors for the rear passengers. :D
bbplayajs 01-14-2005, 01:39 PM Thanks for the help. I will cut it lower then and take pictures of how it turns out. I thought if I cut it lower, I would have to fiberglass in the gap between the Nav bezel and the radio bezel. it will save me a lot of money if this isnt the case.
MacFly 01-14-2005, 04:50 PM Thanks for the help. I will cut it lower then and take pictures of how it turns out. I thought if I cut it lower, I would have to fiberglass in the gap between the Nav bezel and the radio bezel. it will save me a lot of money if this isnt the case.
wow, fiberglass........that won't be cheap!
ya, just make sure you take precise measurements....with the angle and all, it's not that easy!
good luck and be sure to take pics!
bbplayajs 01-18-2005, 11:25 PM So, let me get this straight... (sorry in advance for questioning you) What you are saying is that your Nav bezel and your radio bezel are touching, but you just didnt cut the radio bezel low enough to see the actual contact...
MacFly 01-19-2005, 04:13 AM So, let me get this straight... (sorry in advance for questioning you) What you are saying is that your Nav bezel and your radio bezel are touching, but you just didnt cut the radio bezel low enough to see the actual contact...
there's probably a 1/4 of an inch gap, if that! i just didn't feel the need to get it that close! i felt it was more important to get a clean cut and have a lil overlap. plus, the thought of measuring wrong and cuttig it too short would've killed me!!
bbplayajs 01-19-2005, 04:32 PM That sucks... now I will have to do some fiberglassing to fill in that gap. Dang, and I thought I was going to save some money... oh well.
bbplayajs 01-28-2005, 07:12 PM I took my Nav bezel and double din radio bezel in yesterday to get worked on. they are going to cut The radio bezel low and fill in the gap so it looks like the top of the stock Nav radio bezel. confusing I know, but I will post pics when finished. It should turn out great...
bbplayajs 02-17-2005, 04:50 PM Well, I Just got my Nav bezel that I bought back from the shop where they had molded my screen into it where the stock nav screen would have been... they also molded the new radio bezel (fit kit) into the nave bezel... it turned out great... I will post pics soon if interested.

here's a breakdown:
Navi Bezel - i knew someone who worked at Nissan, so i got it for $90 shipped!
7" Monitor - i got an audiovox for $150.
Installation - i also got 2 headrest monitors installed at the same time, but i would say $150 for just the front monitor.

i'd love to help, but if you notice in my previous post......i knew someone from nissan! he was actually "let go" the day he went in to pick up my bezel! unrelated to purchase of the bezel of course.
if i'm not mistaken, the oginal price is about $160 for the bezel.
sorry i couldn't help.

yes, you are correct. but keep in mind that the thickness of the housing around the actual monitor .........if it's too thick, it won't fit the housing.

i'd jump on it! and i would wait 'til you got the housing before shopping for a monitor. this way, you can take the housing with you and see how the monitor will fit the opening.
good luck!
bootyologist24 06-01-2005, 11:39 PM What exactly are you guys talking about on the whole gap thing on the housing. Sorry but I'm not seeing it on the pics, and dont quite get what people are referring to when they say they may want to flush it to the level of the stock DVD or whatever

worker smarter, not harder! :D
do a search between clubtitan.com and clubarmada.com and you'll find threads of what the "gap" conversation is all about. to make a long story short, you need to cut the top of the radio bezel.....if not, the top edge of the radio bezel will block the bottom portion of your new monitor.
WILDnPHX 06-06-2005, 02:04 AM Ok, here is the Arizona Nissan WholeSale website where you can get just the housing by itself.
Housing for $117.62 (http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=searchCatalogOEM&siteid=49)
I'm am also looking to do this but of course it is on the long list of upgrades for the Armada that will need the Wife's approval as it's mainly her ride.

You can call 408-941-0055 or toll free 888-216-5328 and have them order parts. Cheryl is my point of contact in the parts dept. She will take care of you. let her know that Les from sacramento referred you.
spaldo 06-10-2005, 07:41 PM will do! will keep you posted, i hope Jaime can help me out!
I would also like to add the Nav monitor - but only to control the stock DVD player, which only shows in the back seat (ever tried working a DVD menu, while driving, craning your neck back with the kids screaming? Don't.)
a) Has anyone successfully tapped the DVD player to add a 2nd monitor at all, and
b) used that Nav monitor housing (either stock 7" from Nissan, or after-market?)
bonus) Pictures of above operations?
Thanks!

ockevin 06-24-2005, 04:15 AM I am also interested in the front housing and 2 headrests. Can you put up the link for the headrest in the seats with the stock DVD system. Thanks.

Eugene Onyeji 11-05-2005, 03:32 AM I am interested also. Post the pics here or email to squeezinef@hotmail.com. Thanks!!
I'm very much interested, please send me pics and purchase contact info to econyeji@yahoo.com
carlos22 11-17-2005, 01:20 PM Here its is the part you've lookign for its only $146

ockevin 11-17-2005, 08:53 PM I got the new faceplate, so I will be attemping another cut of the radio bezel. Last time I cut it to low and the gap between the radio and the monitor was too large. I will cut a little higher this time to make it look better.
By the way...I paid $114 for the piece from Pinnacle Nissan shipped.
Kevin
adjmcloon 11-17-2005, 10:34 PM How are you planning on cutting it? I think I read that Macfly had someone use a straight edge and razor and ran it a few times across until they could break it, and then use a dremel tool to smooth the edge a bit.
Post some pics if you can- I'm going to order the part and get the Clarion NICE system I think.
Eugene Onyeji 11-17-2005, 11:03 PM Hi Gentlemen, My Armada has been at the work shop since Monday - and I've gone through untold hardship - just because the expert I took my Housing and N.I.C.E. says the housing would not fit in place after attaching the n.i.c.e. to it. They claim the bottom part of n.i.c.e. is the obstruction. Please can those with solution e-mail me at econyeji@yahoo.com or better still fax it to Performance Car Audio & Offroad : 409-842-0894. I have get my truck out of the workshop this Friday.
ockevin 11-18-2005, 01:04 AM I used a straight edge, masked it all off with tape and then used a dremel tool to cut the bezel.
MacFly 11-18-2005, 01:22 AM hey fellas, sorry i haven't kept up with all the questions and requests...i've been out of town on business quite a bit.
ockevein....just to clarify, i do not have the factory DVD system......my whole system is all aftermarket. sorry to hear about you having to purchase another housing. i measured and measured again to make sure not to cut it too low. as i've mentioned before, i purposely wanted to cut above the point where the navi ledge and the radio bezel meet. being able to see the gap would've driven me crazy!
pls post pics when you get a chance, would love to see the final product!
ockevin 11-26-2005, 06:46 PM Finally got it finished.
I installed a tv/dvd monitor in the factory naiv housing. I did not have the factory navigation, so I ordered the bezel and had the radio bezel trimmed and covered in carbon fiber. I think it turned out great and than to Macfly for the inspiration to do the Mod. I used a 7" Innovatek monitor and drilled a hole for the remote eye. Its all tied in to the factory DVD system.

kev,
that looks great bro! i especially love the look of the CF on the "ledge" - not to mention the nicely matched center console!
it'll take some time getting use to watching a movie and driving at the same time. but nevertheless, be careful!
again, nice lookin' set up! :urock:
ockevin 11-28-2005, 12:27 AM Thanks Macfly,

John,
the plastic machine shop guy, do you think he will be willing to make another cut for the radio bezel? if so whats his number or address?
thanks
ockevin 12-04-2005, 06:45 PM George,
Any good stero shop can make the cut. I made my first cut on the bezel with a dremel tool and tape. I had it redone to trim it in carbon fiber to look nicer.

Kevin,
I called the guys in Stanton, but they want me to buy the system from them in order to install it ( $1299.00), any way I already purchased the system on Ebay for $700.00. went to a audio/video shop with the Navigation housing and the Clarion and asked them what would it cost to install the system, well, they gave that blank look and started throwing numbers at me. thats when I noticed that they have no idea what they are talking about, and I left. and now looking for another shop to do the install
ockevin 12-04-2005, 09:05 PM George,
Sounds weird. Sounds like they dont want to do it. They should have no problem doing the install. They took care of me and the carbon fiber trim piece. Try again and tell them about my truck and they did the install with carbon fiber, they sell the sheets of cf in the store. Install should be around $150-$200 for everything.
Another shop is Exotic Autosound, Westminster, CA 714-379-5600.
Tell them that Kevin with the silver Armada sent you. They will remeber the monitor with the factory bezel as well.
Good Luck.

Thanks!

Actually, I just bought a Creative Zen Vision: M....which is like a Video Ipod, only better, with less hype.
anyways, it has an audio/video out cable with RCA style plugs....the audio will plug into my after market radios aux-in RCA plugs, I just need to output the video to a monitor.
So basicly. The only requirement i have is that theres a way to plug my RCA type plug into it. So it cant be s-video, VGA, etc.....

Thanks for posting the picture and the link, is this the 60 GB?, I saw something at Costco with 60GB, for $389.00, How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?
as for the cable I am sure it will not fit on the Clarion unit, there is no connection for RCA cable there. maybe the eclipse or pioneer units had the connection for the plug.

sooo......
anyone know of a good 7" LCD monitor that I can output my video to via RCA jacks and will fit in the factory navi bezel?

I have the Vision M and Eclipse 5495 So I've installed the A/V Tuner Switcher, and the sound in the best...
considering the 5495 is over $2,000  ...thats not an option :D
dahubby 09-05-2006, 03:24 PM there are a few, pioneer, kenwood, etc. Its best to do a google search for double din dvd players, or navigation whicever you prefer with dual inputs, and see what you can find. I personally have the eclipse AVN 5495 and i love it, but thats just me, Later....
dahubby 09-05-2006, 03:27 PM I think the Kenwood DDX 8017 might be what youre looking for and ebay has them for under 1000
dahubby 09-05-2006, 03:28 PM One last thing. If you do buy one and its a little too small, you can always use the plastic trimming to fill in the gap, alright i think im done now....
Djoker04 09-05-2006, 08:15 PM sooo......
anyone know of a good 7" LCD monitor that I can output my video to via RCA jacks and will fit in the factory navi bezel?
Go to http://www.webzone.us/audio/product.php?productid=16373&cat=249&page=2 They have 7" monitors and every thing else you need. When you get one you might have to cut the top part of the Headrest housing the LCD goes in to fit in the top part of the Nav Housing. That's what I did. To mount in the housing people used different ways so check in the search area and chose.
Have Fun!!
