Is it normal to have the screen almost black when it's 112 F out? Once the truck cools off it goes back to normal. Does that mean the nav screen is cheap or do they all do this?

That seems weird. Is it possibly in night mode? Sorry you live where its 112. It was 90 here today, and that's too hot for me. ;)

probably glare ?? i have this problem when i have the sunroof screen open...too much light that outshines the lcd output...maybe ?? if this is a problem even in a dim place but still hot, maybe it is temperatiure related...i know if it is too cold the screen becomes slow to respond..you might not notice how slow it is with regular use like the navigation, but i had a PS2 wired to my navigations system in my 05 maxima and when playing a video when i was very cold you could tell the screen was slow... maybe it reacts to the heat as well..but try to eliminate the glare first...

Definitely a heat issue. Once the AC kicks in cold the screen slowly brightens up. When it first happened, I checked the day/night settings. Of course I couldn't see what the screen was doing because it was almost black, or basically all dark.
It's not a glare issue either. I covered the screen from any glare and that didn't help. So if others have not seen a degredation in the screen when it's 112 or so, maybe I should have it replaced? When in reverse I can't use the backup camera because I can't see anything!

That is the nature of LCD screens. If you have a phone leave it on the dash for the same period of time. You will notice it does the same thing.

I agree, it's an LCD + heat thing. I've had the same thing happen to a phone. Still not sure if it's normal for the mada though, but it is definately a heat issue.

Try a windshield cover if not already or even just throw a towle or something over the nav.

Thanks for the insight. I will try to cover it next time and see how it does.
