: clarion nice install 50% done
ginune16 08-21-2006, 11:20 AM Finished installing the nice over the weekend finnally. Had no idea what I was doing but I got through it. I still need to figure out how to hook up the back up cam, splice into some power behind the dash (right now using the cig lighter), splice into the aux wire behind the dash, figure out how i am going to finish the dash peice that i had to shave down right above the radio read out and sign up for sirius.
Any suggestions on all but the last one would be greatly appreciated. sorry for the camera phone pics but thats all i have.

ggeorgie 08-21-2006, 11:35 AM Nice N.I.C.E install, did you purchase the Clarion Navsir?
bg1906 08-21-2006, 11:40 AM Does the Clarion Nice fit in the factory Nav spot? I need navigation and monitor now that I've added after market head unit. Will NICE work as a standalone unit with after market NAV and also function as TV monitor?

yes it will work as a stand alone unit, yes it fits the oem nav spot but you have to do some cutting be hind the dash where the unit will sit or the bezel will not fit back into the clips (found this out the REALLY hard way). Purchased a $30 dremel from walmart to do the cutting. I did purchase the navisar antenna for it, it actually came with mine for a little bit more. and it works like a dream. I did not have either the patience or the nowhow to install the antena outside so i just put it behind the unit and stuck it underneath the windshield and it worked like a charm.

Glad to hear that your Navsir is working correctly, I am on my second unit and its still giving me the aquiring signal message, did not work for me at all, Did you plug the navsir into the N.I.C.E unit and the Antenna into the Navsir? If you can post some pics of the Navsir install that will be great.
marctronixx 08-21-2006, 01:24 PM i see you have made a sort of mount bracket for the monitor. can you give me some more detail on how you did that and with what parts?
also, the backup cam, where are you putting it? is it going in the back next to the latch handle? also how are you running the wires back to the monitor??
and yes, the navsir photo or description of where it is would be great! i need some dumbed down photos/descriptions.. most gents on here who did this mod are clearly mechanically inclined.. much more so than myself... thanks for your posts... they really help!!

there is a post by grumble grumble that has a pic of where you need to cut, basically you have to cut a path the width of the nice straight back through the plastic, if i knew what i was doing at the time it would have taken 10 minutes on a full dremel battery.

i would have to dissasemble everything to get to the navsir but all i did was connect all the wires that it came with which was 2 of them and it worked, i put the antenna right below the windshield, you can see it below my inspection sticker. The navsir box is behind the glovebox wedged up there between something, i kinda just threw it up there.

Yall are going to laugh at my "bracket", it is double sided 3m tape. it is strong as it can be though, i couldnt move the thing if i tried.
there is a pic of my cam, i just ran the wire down the lenght of the plastic and stuffed it underneath where the plastic meets carpet
the navsir again is nothing more that 2 wires and a box between the wires. all i had to do is make sure that the antenna could see the sky.
Oh and i ran all the wires to sit inside the glovebox in case i need to get to them like the usb cable

marctronixx 08-21-2006, 04:14 PM thanks bro.
so double sided tape was all it took? thats even better since i dont have any shop skills!
so as far as cutting, you only had to cut just ABOVE the radio display? how difficult was that to keep things straight?
as for the camera,
you did not open up the back hatch.. you just ran it down the insides correct?
in all, how long was the install?
thanks....

double sided tape is way more than enough to hold it
i had to cut above the displan AND underneath the outer housing above the actual radio itself is to make room for the back of the nice to sit, there is a post up here somewhere by grumble grumble that has pics on that, it was had to keep straight because i did not have the proper tools to do it but i plan on putting a piece of suede over it and under the wood dash kit to kind of hide the edge and provide a soft cushion for my hand when im messin with the unit,
as for the camera, i did open the hatch and ran it down the side next to the seats like you would do speaker wire.
:machinegu <---- i dunno i just like this dude
