Been a while since my last post, but I just hit the 30k mile mark on my 05 pathfinder LE and took it to the dealer for the normal tune up.
Is it true that the transmission and rear differential on the pathfinder come from the factory with synthetic oil in them? The dealer made me pay $100.00 more becuase the pathfinder had it and I want to know if I got screwed. Hope somebody out there can tell me I didn't need it so I can go back an raise some hell....
Thanks in advance if you can answer my question!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better to have it than to not have it but I don't know if it is factory spec. It isn't on the Armada but I swapped at 1500 miles. ;)

TB, besides the price, is there a down side to sythetic?

The only down side to synthetics are:
They are too slick to allow for a proper break in. Dino oil is best to allow the parts to grind themselves into a good mate.
They are bad if put into something that has a lot of miles. Usually after a long time of dino oil use, the oil works itself in between the gaskets. The synthetic oil will eat away at the old dino oil and the seals start to leak. Probably won't happen on a 30k mile Armada, but it has been known to happen on a 100k Chevy 350 for example. Suddenly, they start leaking oil like a sive and they have already had all the damage done the synthetic would have prevented to begin with.
Switching to synthetic is good at your first scheduled oil change. I also like to change the factory oil after 500-1500 miles to get out any metal burrs, etc that may be left in the oil from initial break in. And Synthetics will prolong the life of the components dramatically. You can also go longer between changes without damage. I use mobil one in all my motors and change every 3-5k. I also use mobil one in the diffs, etc. Partial synthetics like Castrol are junk. The dino part of them is still there. Might as well be full dino for all the added benefit you get. You need to use a full synthetic like mobil one, Amsoil, Redline, etc. to get a true synthetic result.

great advice on the synth oil 92TRIPLEBLACK.
Now can someone tell me if using SYNTH OIL will improve Mileage over the DINO OIL?

Our local dealer charges $600.00+. Suppose to include radiator flush, service of the power steering, oil change, tire rotation and some other stuff I guess. This pretty much goes for Pathfinder also.

the 05 and up pathfinders us J-matic trans fluid which i believe is syn, but more importantly isn't even susposed to be checked until 60k (so just curious why you had it changed?)
