: Intermittent Brake Light - Power Brake Booster
SgtTurtle 10-08-2006, 10:28 PM Had an issue where the brake light was coming on intermittently, the brake pedal would feel soft, and the front brakes would groan. First time I took it in they did the reprogram detailed in the TSBs. 4 weeks later it started happening again. Now the dealer says it is the power brake booster and is going to replace it. Unfortunately, they don't have any power brake boosters and there appear to be none in the supply chain. They have provided me with a rental for 10 days. Hopefully, I will get it back by then.
Anyone else have this problem? Love my Mada but hate the problems...

Can't say that I have seen this before, but thanks for the info!
tealarmada 10-15-2006, 05:58 PM I have this same issue in my 04 Armada but the dealer can't duplicate the problem to determine the issue. Thanks for the post.
SgtTurtle 10-19-2006, 12:49 AM Just an update. I took my Mada in on 10/3. It is still at the dealer. The power brake booster is just not available. My service adviser told me that they are going to pull the part from the assembly line and it should be here by 10/25. I am pretty frustrated that this part is so scarce. It has been 2 weeks since I have had my Mada. I have a Suburban rental, but it is just not the same.
jo3y1nf4nt3 05-02-2007, 02:09 AM i'm not sure if it happened after i had to apply the brakes immediately, but when i would be driving and coming to a stop, the brake pedal would depress softer and then after more than normal length, it would make a grinding noise like it was loose. it would pop, then do that noise. the brake warning light would be on as well. not sure what it was so when i finally got my kids home (me being very nervous of possibility of being w/o brakes) i went to take it around the block and well, the brake light was turned off and then noise went away. i would think the ABS was not working correctly until i turn it off and it would reset? that shouldn't be. the rotor problem has been "taken care of"......for now i guess. i did have the kit installed. thanks and i hope someone can lemme know something or maybe one has experienced the same thing.
Welcome to the Club Joey!!!
Here's a thread on what sounds to me like it's the same problem.
http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=918
And here is the TSB stating the fix for the error code that was documented in that thread.

I would print out the TSB and take it to the dealership. Hopefully you're still under warranty, if not, you can call around for pricing if you tell them about the TSB and error code. Whether it's right for your problem or not, it'll still give you an idea of what they'll charge.
Oh yea, almost forgot since you asked on another thread, print out the instructions for the "2 degree timing advance" to take in with you too. Since they'll be using the ConsultII for the brake problem anyway, it'd only take the Tech maybe a minute to advance your timing too. Just keep in mind that most dealerships are leary of doing it so if the Tech is willing to do it, it's a favor. I payed a Tech $50 under the table for it here. ;)
What year model do you have?? Hopefully, we can persuade you into posting pics soon. :D
mdborn 05-03-2007, 01:32 PM i know i had to take mine in cause the brake ,slip light came on i had a bad sensor going to get it replace tomorrow.....
jo3y1nf4nt3 05-03-2007, 11:18 PM ok, well, they say they can't find a code for it (obviously since it reset when i turned off the truck) i told them to do what the procedure reads (the one i printed out from here) and it should take care of it? am i right?
and they did the 2 degree advance...not sure how much they'll charge prolly and hour, but i'm money baby! lol..j/k
thanks guys...i'll be lurking and being insightful if i can. piece (sic) out, joey
Hopefully they'll get an error code, that TSB says that error C1179 must be present. Let us know how you like the 2 degree advance too, I noticed quite a difference when I had mine done.
Feel free to post away, that's what this site is here for!!!! Everyone's friendly here so you don't need to worry about getting slammed down as long as you keep it pretty clean, the Admin likes to keep this place clean enough for the kids to enjoy too. :D
ronaldodmd 05-07-2007, 11:28 PM On my 2004 Armada they change the brake booster (12/2005). It worked well until recently that the same problem happened again!!! 15k miles later. My warranty is over. What do you know about the warranty extension by Nissan on the problem of brake judder - 36 mo. and unlimited milage for Armadas and 48 mo. unlimited milage for QX 56?
92TripleBlack 05-08-2007, 12:36 AM I believe the brake warranty covered brake judder, which was caused by rotors and pads, not boosters. I don't think your problem would be covered but I'd ask. You could get a booster from a wreck at www.car-part.com and then have a private mechanic install for much less than what a stealer would ask if it isn't covered.
