They noticed that the 2005 and 2006 engine was extremely powerful for it's lightweight and was taking sales away from the Armada, so they stripped some power from it to make it less capable.

If you believe that, I have some Florida swamp property I'd like to sell you.

It's just the new SAE standards of rating horsepower and torque. By 2009 all automibles must comply with the new standards that take VVT (Variable Valve Timing) technology into the ratings. With previous ratings, engines that used VVT had the ratings somewhat guessed at.

Nissan's previous formula for power ratings was really right on. While the 4.0L motor in the Pathfinder, Xterra, and Frontier lost 4 Hp and 3 lbs of torque, the 5.6L engine in the Armada and Titan gained 12 Hp and 6 lbs of torque in the ratings.

If you look at Honda and Toyota with the newer SAE ratings, some of the vehicles dropped ~20 Hp as they were excessively over rating their vehicles.

Same engines, differerent standards of rating power.

Have a good one.
