I would like to do a "cleaner" look on my 2004 QX56 by removing the roof rack. Has anyone looked into this? The dealer said that the headliner would have to be removed and then the holes filled in. The FX has inserts where their roof rack is and then the dealer can take the inserts out and put on the roof rack. I would like to do the opposite. If Jason Burtman is reading I think this would be a cool product to come out with. I put on his mesh grill and it looks hot. I think the next step to "cleaning up" the QX56 lines is the roof rack removal. I have never used it and I have scraped it twice on low parking garage ceiling. If any one knows an easy way to take off the roof rack let me know and if any one know of "inserts" I would be interested. I hate to have my body shop guy weld in and paint the roof. Thanks in advance for your answers!

You can do it permanently, but I wouldn't. It will hurt resale. Take it off properly and plug the holes with rubber grommets and silicone. This way when you go to sell, you can put it back on. I know I wouldn't want one without one. I use mine all the time with a pod, for moving. plywood, etc. ;)

Thanks everyone for your reply! I will take triple blacks advice and plug the holes so I can put the rack back on. It sounds like a simple job. I was afraid you had the take the headliner out, etc. By the way this forum is filled with many smart people like Triple Black, Black Spyda, etc. I joined the Lexus owners club.(bought a 07 GS350) and many of those guys can't change a light bulb! Thanks again

Should be pretty easy. We used to do this on cars when I was an installer back in the day when people put cell phone antennas in fenders, roofs, etc. It's also high enough off the ground that you can't see anything either, unless you're Shaq.
Good luck and take some pics. ;)
