: Number of quarts Armada takes?
aggie00 12-14-2006, 12:15 PM I started doing my own oil changes after the first was done by my local Nissan dealership here in Austin, Tx. When it was time for my Armada's 2nd oil change I went to the dealership to get some crush washers and while I was there I asked how much oil the Armada takes and the nissan service guy told me about 6 1/2 quarts. So that is the number of quarts I been putting and I never questioned the austin nissan service guy because after every oil change I did, I would verify the oil level on the dip stick about an hour after I had changed the oil. Now on my last oil change I was back home where we originally bought our Armada and since we still had a free oil coupon from the dealer we had the oil change done by the dealer. But what through me off was when I asked how much extra was it going to cost me if for synthetic oil. Service guy said since Armada's need about 8 quarts it was going to be so much extra. Now which nissan service guy is right? The one from Austin that first told me it takes about 6 1/5 quarts or the one from back home?
I appreciate if you all can get me straight with this?
baseballfanz 12-14-2006, 01:11 PM 6.5 qt is about right. My Titan use 7 which put my oil level at a little above halfway mark between Low and High on the dip stick. 8 would be too much IMO.
BlakSpyda 12-14-2006, 03:49 PM 6.5 (6 - 1/2) is the standard.
scr38 12-14-2006, 05:10 PM With a new filter 6.5 quarts will fill half way between the L and H marks. That is what Nissan does. 7 quarts will fill it to the H mark. You should never fill over the H mark; that will cause more harm than the engine being filled to just the L mark.
Cillyone 12-14-2006, 11:46 PM FYI for the guys who wait for hours/all night to let the very last drop of oil drain so they can get nothing but new oil in the engine, don't bother. The Nissan 5.6 actually holds a total of 7.6 qt in a dry, reassembled engine. Therefore there is still OVER a quart of "old" oil in the engine, even after a full oil/filter change.
Armada 12-15-2006, 03:49 PM Anyone that charges you for eight quarts is ripping you off. Six and a half quarts is correct. Let them charge you for seven but raise cain about eight - that is fraud. Ask him to show you the service manual -- that you want a copy of that page. That will shut him up.
mich05 12-15-2006, 06:50 PM I had mine changed at a local shop, and with their filter it took 7.5 using my mobil one oil. I beleive the manual says 7qts

Look at this chart:
Wildblue 01-01-2007, 02:36 AM Yes, based on that, I believe that 5W-30 is the way to go for almost everybody.

I'm interested, too. Specifically, in the discussion of mineral vs. synthetic, are there any other factors to consider? Is mineral better for these vehicles in general simply because they're heavy-duty vehicles, or only when towing? Would extra cold, such as Alaska, make a difference in mineral vs. synthetic?
BostonBob 01-10-2007, 01:15 PM I use Mobil1 5w-30 - just changed it and took a little over 7 quarts to get me to top marker. I actually put 7 in, ran it a while and shut it down - then rechecked - it needed a little bit more to hit top.

Madahajimoto 05-24-2007, 02:44 PM I put seven in my mada all the time. It always comes short. I have noticed also that you gots to be on the straightest level to check the oil accurately.

Me too. I'm usually at 7-1/2 quarts after letting the filter fill.
