: How to short people wash this thing?
spta97 12-18-2006, 09:30 AM Yesterday was the first time I washed the Armada (I have only had it a week). I'm 6'0" tall and even standing on my Craftsman sit / stand / tote (about 2 feet high) I found I had to use the limits of my reach to wax the roof (I polished with the orbital, then followed by hand wax).
It got me thinking if I was shorter there is no way I could reach the top. Even if you get high enough up, your arms have to be pretty long to get to the middle.
What do those who are shorter or have short arms do?
Hang from the garage roof trusses. ;)
BlakSpyda 12-18-2006, 10:36 AM I am 5'8" and I use a ladder. My wife laughs at me, but I get 'er done!
razzlee 12-18-2006, 11:27 AM My roof is REALLY dirty!!LOL
galaktified 12-18-2006, 11:35 AM A 5'2" Filipino like me employs the help or rather relies on detailing and hand car wash shops :p About twice a month I do it myself though and yes i'm small and light enough to climb on the tires for a quick minute to get to the top. Otherwise I do use steps and longer brush handles. I don't bother waxing the top though :D

I just noticed your ^^Mt. Hood...Get it?^^
Hahahahaha
92TripleBlack 12-18-2006, 11:55 AM I wash the top with a wash brush/lambswool on a pole. I wax it very rarely. Its easier for me to just park next to a curb, then I can stand on the curb and reach up there. 6'1";)

sorry to thread jack...
TB, you never chimed in on the rainX conversation. Is this a product you would use? you've got good instincts about this stuff...

No problemo. I've used it on my windshield. It works well in some instances, not so well in others. I like it for making removal of bugs easier, and it seems to make rain shed off well. Conversely, some wipers will drag on it and the added resistence makes them skitter across instead of go smoothly. Overall, I use it occasionally, but I'm not crying if it isn't on. I also don't see any harm in it. Not sure if I'd use the version that goes into the sprayers as this may build up over time and clog the lines possibly. ;)
inqui-Z-tor 12-18-2006, 12:32 PM 5'5" .. use 6ft step ladder .. use scrub brush/microfiber mit with a pole .. use the Mr Clean AutoDry system ...
My wife brings the Armada to a detail-car wash shop .. 2x per year ..
I'm considering highering a (mobile) detailer to do it regularly .. we'll see.

They are asking $60 here for inside and out including the tire wells and carpet shampoo. ;)

That's a smokin' deal! Our local detailer wants $120. She is very thorough though. Seat removal, vents...basically a showroom finish. (if you have a showroom car.LOL)
drcookie 12-18-2006, 03:52 PM It is pretty hard to reach the front roof but for the rear roof portion, I usualy step on the rear wheels. It gives me better reaching point to the middle of the roof.
spta97 12-18-2006, 04:31 PM Yesterday I was up there with the the Moose Wax (excellent paint cleaner / polish) and the S100 regular wax. I only do a paste wax like 2x per year. The other times I use spray wax (QuickShine).
As I was up there, I was thinking "I bet most Armada owners never wax the roof". I guess I was right! :(
BlakSpyda 12-18-2006, 04:36 PM I wax mine each and every time I wax the rest of the truck!

As do I. Being 6' I have a tough time with the center of the roof. Not willing to get on top of the roof all together.
Is it possible to actually get on the roof?
coleman 12-18-2006, 05:30 PM I let the guys at the car wash worry about that.
ggeorgie 12-18-2006, 07:34 PM 3'3", on my hand and knees on the roof, waxing and buffing:D :D :D:crikey: :crikey:

This is why I do it myself. I notice more and more in life that if you want something done right....well you know the rest.

tbird5dcc 12-19-2006, 08:33 PM What I do is stand on the step and move aft...Then I grab ahold of the roof rack and stand on top of the rear tire. Works good for me...but then again I am 6'3"... There is a spot on the windshield that i cannot get to. Upper center portion...about 3 inches across. I almost had an accident staring at it quite a few times... wondering how I can get to it when the sun was in my face!!!!
Ha HA

It's funny you mention the sun. For whatever reason I noticed that I was fighting the sun blindness more so than any other car. Thinking about it it is probably because I'm looking up most of the time.
As far as that spot on the windshield, I had my 2' step, I put two fingers on the rubber around the windshield for balance (and so I didn't leave a finger print) and reached for it. I was like Spiderman cleaning this rig.
Peter Benger 12-23-2006, 04:32 PM Here is how I wash and wax my roof - I get on my work platform, which allows me to reach one half of the roof in safety and comfort; I do however have a slight adavantage, I'm 6'3" tall. This platform also does come in handy when loading stuff onto my roof rack, fits in the back with the third row seat up and also doubles as a bench for two while camping. Paid less than $30 at Lowes, measures 3'9" long, 12" wide and 1'8" tall.
ggeorgie 12-23-2006, 04:41 PM Thats great Peter, am getting one today.
