: Squeaky front suspension
Tmation 12-29-2006, 01:03 PM My 05 4 X 4 Armada front suspension squeaks and creaks over speed bumps at slow speed (10 to 15 mph). It sounds like old bed springs, anyone else had this problem and how was it sorted?
Its due a service in about 2000 miles, so if its not a major problem I will leave it until then and hopefully get it sorted under warranty.
BlakSpyda 12-29-2006, 01:39 PM I just had my 30K service (06 SE 4X4) and never had that problem so far!
92TripleBlack 12-29-2006, 02:00 PM I don't have that either. Have it checked. Sounds like a loose bolt somewhere.
flip4prez 12-29-2006, 02:06 PM my 04 doesnt make that noise either. there may be a tsb for it tho.... hope that helps
esMada 12-29-2006, 02:10 PM I had a problem similiar to this 6 months ago. It turned out to be my running board on one side. They tightened it up and no more noise. Hopefully this is your problem.
RichK 12-29-2006, 06:37 PM My 04 had that problem only in the winter. I took it in for an oil change and metioned the squeak and they actually fixed it. I hope our new 07 doesn't develop it too.
PHD007 12-29-2006, 07:48 PM My 06 Mada is experiencing that same problem right now. I dont have time to take it in for another couple days. If you go let me know what they said and or did for your problem. Thank You
Tmation 12-30-2006, 05:06 AM its not a clonking sound of say a loose bolt, it may be a rubber bush squeaking but you can hear the suspension compress and then unload at the frontand it squeaks and creaks as it does it. It is cold here now (around 55 F)and its only started doing it in the cold weather.
Have checked underneath and cant see anything loose or rubbing, or any oil leaking from the shock absorber (suspension unit).
The dealer here in Saudi is staffed by non native arabic or english speakers, so communicating a problem to them can be a problem.
notourios10 12-30-2006, 01:24 PM i have an 06 and i have the same problem it sounds like the front suspension i toke it to the dealer and they said that the left suspension housing bolt was lose and they tighten it but the sound can back the next day
RichK 12-30-2006, 05:31 PM If I had to guess what the squeak actually is, I would have to say sway bar bushing. I had urethane bushings in my old Maxima and they would do the same thing when it got cold out. I just put white lithium grease where the bushing went around the bar and the problem was solved. That is what I think Nissan did when they fixed the problem on our old 04.
outbackpaul 01-14-2007, 03:13 PM I've been dealing with this since I've had my 04 Armadillo. I've taken it back to the dealer 5 times and it has never been fixed. I gave up after the last time. This is ridiculous.
ejfinancial 12-03-2007, 10:12 PM I took this into my dealer TWICE, and all they say is.. "We can't duplicate the problem" I even road tested it with them, but of course, it doesn't do it with a Nissan tech in the vehicle. As sOon as I pull off the lot alone, SQUEAK. It does only happen in cold weather, the colder it gets the louder the squeak. I will try the white lithium grease. Anyone else actually KNOW what they did to fix it?

I've just learned to live with it. My brother-in-law owns his own garage and he says it's just annoying but will not result in any damage. It's just hard rubber.
They just replace the Bushings. Start with the Swaybar bushings since they are usually the first to go. If you want to test which ones need replacing, you can take them apart one at a time enough to lube with grease to see when it stops. I used to just pull my swaybar brackets off and apply grease to them every 10k on my Durango because I usually did enough offroading to wear new ones out too fast.
tian74 12-04-2007, 01:58 AM i had this problem twice already.U need lubricate ur mada's sway bar.
eurohazard 12-04-2007, 02:13 AM i had this problem twice already.U need lubricate ur mada's sway bar.Good info. I rencently took a long *** trip, we hit snow, ice, and everyting inbetween. Once I got of the interstates, I noticed in town squeaking in the front suspension. Once I got home I washed the Armada real well, paying particular attention to the suspension components. That helped a bunch, but on long-travel speed bumps I can still hear noise. I will try that!
armadadd 12-04-2007, 09:59 AM I had this for awhile now and had the truck at the dealer almost 10 times having them replacing new sway bushing, new sway bar, lubing it. still no luck. No my warranty is expired and they want me to pay them hourly to identify the problem. this sounds like I'm driving an old ford expedition down the road.

are you hearing a metal "clunking" noise over bumps, or moving in/out of your driveway?? especially if your driveway slopes downwards?? i had this problem and brought it in to Nissan of Manhattan and they found the problem. it was the steering rack bolts; they were loose so they were replaced and haven't heard that noise since.
It is definately the sway bar bushings. I have the same problem. when i did my lift i had to undo the sway bar bolts. as soon as i pushed the sway bar down and out of the way i heard the groaning squeak. Now that i know where the sound is coming from ive got to get in there and lube it.
armadadd 12-12-2007, 09:49 AM Both Metal clunking and the driveway issue..I brought it to Star Nissan in Bayside..Bay Ridge Nissan in Bklyn..and they both said they changed this that..and the noise gets worst when the weather gets cold.

PLEASE, PLEASE post pics of where you can lube them if you get a chance. Now that the weather is changing, I did hear the squeeking return during the cold days. Not the same sound I had from my hood supports, but the suspension squeek when I drive oner speed bumps.
It woud be greatly appreciated.
I'm thinking it should all be in this circled area on both sides.
You'll unbolt the bracket part 54614 and grease it between parts 54614 (Bracket) and 54613 (Bushing) on this diagram and pump grease in between the bar and the bushing. I think that bushing should have a split in it that allows it to be opened but I'm not sure. The bar turning inside the bushing is probably the source of the noise. It should be good if using thick bearing grease. Thin grease can be a waste of time.

BlakSpyda 12-12-2007, 01:04 PM Good enough Pops. Thanks!
:duh: I added to my response above. Also, keep in mind that new bushings are only about $3 each.
Playboy27 12-12-2007, 03:28 PM My armada does the same thing going over speed bumps slowly,I took it in to the dealer & they could not find anything wrong with my truck. They lubricated my suspension but the sound still exists just not as prevalent.
Hi everyone...
I currently have the same issue as everyone else in this thread! I was so relieved when I started searching through the various threads and found this one. I'm going home tonight to check my bushing out (thanks to Pops for the diagram) - I'll let everyone know how it goes, just in case anyone else ends up with this irritating noise.
For the record, when I go over a speed bump or low dip, it sounds like the front suspension is creeking a bit. Almost like it's stiff or something.
Thanks!
~ Zire
Mine's recently started a little too. I'm considering testing it out with the Stabilizer Bar removed to see if I can get by ok w/o it. :D
BostonBob 02-26-2008, 04:27 PM I am pretty sure I had this last winter - then it went away and it has re-appeared this year. I figured it was sand or grit getting into the strut casings. The bushings make sense as well. The good thing is that I ONLY hear it when going over a speed bump. It is annoying and can be embarassing if there are onlookers. If someone finds a definite fix - please post it w/ pics!
validusarmada 02-27-2008, 02:01 AM I have an '07 and unfortunately I have the same problem for about a month now. I already developed a "speed bump trauma" from that squeaky noise!! I went to nissan this morning to have it checked together with my service check-up. Guess what?! They didn't find any noise! They looked at me as if I were just making it up. I drove on a lot of speed bumps later that day and nothing happened. I dunno. Well, I hope it doesn't come back though. Anyway, thanks for the great info. If the noise comes back, I know what to do..Yell at the service guys.lol!

i had that problem and made a mistake ever going to Star Nissan. probably the worse service experience ever. i found that most of the Nissan service depts. in Queens and Long Island to be useless. i brought the armada last fall to Nissan of Manhattan and i'm glad i did. they took care of every issue i had complained about, explained to me in detail what IS and ISN'T covered under the extended warranties, and the customer service was exceptional.
the repair work done on that visit were:
- replaced power steering rack bolts(clunking noise when going over speed bumps and inclined/declined driveways, especially if the wheels are turned)
- replaced front sway bar bushings and front end links
- replaced both rear window guides/track and hardware(they were rattling even when closed)
- repaired the sunroof(it was vibrating when i had it in the open/vent position)
- replaced the slide links/pulley related to the defroster(forgot the TSB#, but it makes that moaning, groaning sound behind the dash when you switch on/off the the defroster
- repaired the ABS,VDC,SLIP, lights and brake issues. it was a faulty front pressure sensor that was replaced and the ECU was reprogrammed
at the end, i only had to pay $162 with a $50 deductible. Jackie was my service rep and she took into consideration off all the problems i was having not only with the vehicle, but finding a reputable service center willing to actually take on the issues i was having.
DMac7 01-13-2010, 01:59 PM I have the dreaded speedbump squeak curse. Has anyone confirmed if in fact it is the bushings as suggested in the thread. My mechanic says that he can hear the noise and he lubed everything (crack a smile) but he didn't specify what everything was. I'd love to be able to go back and tell him specifically what to do if not do it myself.
They were definitely the cause of mine. There are a couple other bushings in the UCA and LCA, and there's also the shock bolt connections. Sway bar bushings are usually the primary cause though.
I removed my sway bar after upgrading to stronger coilovers and had a little squeak. So I sprayed the LCA bushings with high pressure water (no soap) at a manual car wash and that fixed that. It's all squeak free now.
BlakSpyda 01-13-2010, 10:40 PM Welcome to CA DMac7! Mine is still squeaking too!
DMac7 01-14-2010, 03:31 PM Thanks Spyda.
Once it at least gets above freezing I'll power wash underneath and then crawl under there and spray anything and everything I need to. I have plenty of DW40 which I'll try first. I have 6 or so half used cans lying around. For some reason I always think I need a can when I go to the Depot.
BlakSpyda 01-14-2010, 06:16 PM Get silicone. That will last longer. WD-40 will lubricate, but then dry up kind of fast!
BioSolve 01-26-2010, 02:14 PM I experience this same issue on my 05.... it seems to come from the front passenger side. No resolution as of yet.
GottaMada 01-27-2010, 03:08 PM I sprayed silicone lube at the bushings last year. Cleared mine up with no recurrence to date. No power wash.
DMac7 02-02-2010, 12:25 PM Silicone it is then. Great for bushings and 8008s
Optimusprime 02-02-2010, 02:12 PM I have a 07 Armada which had the said problem, which got worst as it got colder,i found out that the noise was coming from the sway bar bushings,i sprayed some lubricant in between the bar and bushings.this stop the squeking for now ill get under there when it warms up and try something better if the noise comes back.
