: Oh crap... on a 2006 now?

I'm still breaking in (no pun intended) my new 2006 QX56. Owned it for about a month and a half, and have about 1,000 miles.

It's started to have a light squeal when the brakes are lightly applied. Some days it does it, some days it doesn't, but on the days it does, it happens consistently. I haven't been able to tell yet if it's something that happens like only when it's wet or not.

It's only when I barely apply the brakes, such as when I'm driving slowly through a parking lot or stopped traffic and am just monitoring my crawl speed with the brakes. The squeal is light, but noticeable. Outside the car, and if I roll down the window, it's certainly noticeable for those around the car, and rather embarassing. If I apply the brakes with normal pressure, such as normal street driving situations, there is no squeal. Braking action is just fine, no vibration, no loss of stopping power.

Thoughts? Car has a August 2006 manufacturing date.

Squeeling os not a problem! Vibrating and grinding is. I have brake squeel first thing in the morning prior to having my brakes done last month. I have over 30K miles though!

If you feel like it is a problem though and is consistent, take it to the dealer and have them check it out!

the not so technical and involved explanation is that you need to "burn" off the glazed residue that is on the rotors. At some point on a road with no cops around get your speed up to 70 mph and brake as hard as possible to get your speed to about 20 mph then accelerate back to 70 mph. Do this 4 or 5 times and it should burn of the glaze. This happens on my vette when I don't brake hard enough for a while...

Hmmm... interesting. I've never had this happen on any other vehicle I've owned, except in my previous Jeep when the brakes were actually shot and it was the metal-on-metal grind. (that wasn't pretty) That goes for anything from a 575hp race car to a cheap Toyota sedan to big SUV's.

Yeah, I think regardless of the cause, I'd have to say that squealing brakes aren't good. It's not like I want to roll down the window and tell every person that's staring at me while they're squealing, "What are you looking at? This is normal!"

If the brakes squeal on a consistent basis, I would definately take in to the dealer. They shouldn't do that, especially with that low a mileage.
