: What are my options?
Urban Armada 01-30-2007, 12:06 PM I recently purchased a 2004 Armada LE with the DVD/Nav system. The car is out of warranty with 45,000 miles. I am about to purchase an extended bumper-to-bumper warranty that memicks the factory warranty. I love the truck, but have two issues that bother me.
1) The DVD monitor vibration. I know there newer more substancial bracket available through a TSB.
2) Poor FM reception. The treble fades in and out while driving. There is a TSB to replace the head unit.
What are the easiest fixes? Do you think that my extended warranty would cover these issues?
Thanks.
razzlee 01-30-2007, 12:29 PM I would imagine the warranty question can be answered with a phone call to a dealership. Is the 'mada under warranty right now? If it is, I'll bet nissan will do the TSBs for free. The key is going to the right dealership. One that prides it's self on customer service.
good luck.
ggeorgie 01-30-2007, 12:32 PM Am sorry, but did not understand the part that you want to purchase an extended bumper-to-bumper warranty that memicks the factory warranty.
can you clarify? did you buy the Armada used from a dealer or private party?
BlakSpyda 01-30-2007, 12:37 PM Also, the TSBs apply whether it is in or out of warranty!

Spyda is correct...however, the dealership is not required to do the TSB. It is just a guideline for the techs to use in common techncal malfunctions.
Urban Armada 01-30-2007, 12:48 PM Thanks for the replies.
I purchased the vehicle used a couple of weeks ago from a dealership. The car is out of warranty, but I am in the process of purchasing an addition warranty which is suppose to mirror the standard factory bumper-to-bumper warranty for another 4 years and up to 100,000 miles.
I didn't know TSB's continue to be free. The dealer I'm about to go with said the car is out of warranty and that I would have to pay for the TSB (which would suck because Nissan made an inferior product).

Check with a few other dealers, if any are available. Like razzlee said, all dealers will not perform the same!
razzlee 01-30-2007, 12:58 PM Are you going to the same dealership that you bought it from? I would be supprised if they made you pay.
As far as Nissan making an inferior product...I don't have either of those problems and I haven't heard anyone else complain about them. There is a TSB, so someone has had this problem in the past. You did buy an '04 with 45k on the odometer. Did you hear the dvd rattle when you test drove it?
It doesn't matter. Both of those "problems" are very easy to fix, and if the dealer wants to be a jerk then do it yourself.
BTW...what's FM radio?;)
Urban Armada 01-30-2007, 01:18 PM Razzlee:
Unfortunately, I purchased the vehicle from a Toyota dealership (go figure). The DVD rattle is not so much audible, but shakes so much that it is difficult to watch. I am fortunate to not have many/any rattles and shakes in the car (fingers crossed). It's a far cry from my Eddie Bauer Expedition.
I have talked to Nissan Consumer Affairs. As Blaksypder said, the TSB's are guidlines and not recalls according to them. They said to have the vehicle checked at the dealer and take it from there. I have a feeling that if I complain enough, they will do something. Right now, I'm looking at a replacement bracket (which I could probably do myself) and a new head unit for the reception fix (ouch!).
BTW, there is a "service campaign" on the body control module (something have to do with the tow hitch). Nissan is replacing for free. I think this has to do with preventing a fire in the electrical system while towing. It's funny how it is termed a "campaign" and not a "recall". I see the "spin doctor" is at work.
razzlee 01-30-2007, 01:24 PM I think you're on the right track with nissan. I have been very fortunate with them. (if only I could get my dealership to do the timing advance!)
I'm going to have to make a trip to the dealer and check on this "campaign" (LOL) It'll be a good excuse to get a free car wash!
ggeorgie 01-30-2007, 01:25 PM Just got off the phone with nissan consumer affair, and they told me , if the TSB apply to your vehicle the dealer will fix at no extra charge even if it is out of warranty. " I talked to Tammy ".

Urban Armada 01-30-2007, 03:58 PM Thanks for the welcome. The short time I have been here I have found the forum to be a wealth of information. I will do my best to contribute useful information.
I am happy with my Armada. To be truthful, it wasn't even a consideration at first when looking to replace my 2000 EB Expedition. My Expedition was not my only vehicle, but turned out to be my primary one because I liked the room, utility and view of the road (my nicer vehicle I save for sunny top down weather days). The Expedition developed some problems and I needed a good replacement at a decent price (tahoe - hated the styling, Navigator - been there, major problems, Escalade - feared I would have the same issues as a Navigator, newer Expedtion - same issues, newer bland styling). I came across the Armada in some of my research and liked it above the rest. Now I really have some horsepower to pull my trailer loaded with motorcycles. My Expedition sucked wind while towing. Anyway, I'm hoping for the best with this truck. I just want all issues taken care of from the beginning and enjoy it from here.
