: Royal Purple Oil
aggie00 02-07-2007, 12:33 PM Hi guys,
I heard very positive things about Royal Purple oil. I noticed it is the preferred engine oil that tv car shows like Overhaul and other use. Right now all I use is Mobile Full Syntec but am thinking of switching to Royal Purple. Is anyone using Royal Purple in there Armada and can you all comment anything you heard bout this oil brand either good or bad.
Thanks,
aggie00
trueblue01gt 02-07-2007, 02:22 PM jsut stick with mobil1 if thats waht u are using
royal purple isnt any better and its more expensive
its only preferred on those shows because they pay to get on the shows
Matrix 02-07-2007, 04:03 PM Well Im due for an oil change soon. I was referred to Royal Purple and heard nothing but good stuff about it besides the price. It is worth it. But I'll have to see.
clostoyo 02-07-2007, 06:17 PM When you buy RP it is more expensive, but ive seen multiple oil analisys of the RP oil with over 10k miles and the oil still protectec and it can give even more miles, so think you can change your oil @ 3k miles with a oil thats $3.50 quart or @ 10k with ine that it $7 quart do the math, and not to mention RP protection is superior then mobil1 , i use castrol syntec blend and my next oil change will be RP
ggeorgie 02-08-2007, 01:34 AM Sorry Erick, but the dealer changes my oil every 3750k. for $21.00.
esMada 02-08-2007, 01:43 AM ... and they change mine for free every 3750k miles as long as I keep up with the preventive maintenance.

Wow, that is even better deal than mine. :D
clostoyo 02-08-2007, 05:26 PM i've never tusted anyone to touch my cars unless i have no choice , so i allways do my own oil changes, on time i took my wifes matrix in for one of the "free oil changes" and it costed me a dent on her car, i had to fight till the end to get them to fix it, the last time i went to the infinity dealer to get the tranny flushed on the qx was good untill i went to checkthe level on the motor oil and found that the idiots left a bottle of tranny fluid in the front grille, i like to do the work on my own truck toassure its getting done wright, i also have o friend that works in the bmw dealer and the horror stories i hear are bad, he kills drives the crap out o those m5's like there is no tomorrow, so ihave allways done my own maitenance, and use the best oils

I could not agree more!
04NissanArmada 03-15-2007, 09:38 AM I use Amsoil in all my vehicles. I run 0w-30 in the wifes Mada & she really likes it!
razzlee 03-15-2007, 02:41 PM I might try RP if it was more readily available. I use Mobil1 now and I'm pretty happy with it. My truck is at Nissan right now getting the rear dif oil changed to full synthetic...I can't wait to see if there is an increase in MPG.
Dustoff-00 03-15-2007, 03:44 PM Seriously, just by changing the rear diff to synthetic you can increase your MPG?
Shirley, your just kidding:D
MajBlue07 08-15-2007, 01:34 AM I have used Royal Purple for years in my RX-7 that I autocrossed and road raced (legally). I also use it in my '00 Xterra since it's first oil change and my Infiniti G35 coupe. When I bought my '07 Armada, I waited for the initial oil change and switched to Royal Purple. Needless to say I believe in the product. My engines idle smoother and revs are quicker. Not sure about increase in mpg, but with 123,000 miles on my '00 Xterra, the proof is there. Great product!
lowincarmada 08-15-2007, 02:45 AM i use rp on all my vehicles runs a lot smoother and I used to love mobile 1 until i tried rp.

+1 BINGO! Money Talks
Cillyone 08-17-2007, 03:28 AM I have a 190,000 HARD miles on my 1990 4cyl 4Runner and it has never had expensive synthetic oil in it, only regular Castrol, Valvoline...what ever is on sale, and it is ready for another 100k miles. I think with regular oil changes there is no reason that good quality dino oil can't make an engine last nearly forever.
spta97 08-17-2007, 11:55 AM i use rp on all my vehicles runs a lot smoother and I used to love mobile 1 until i tried rp.
I used RP on my M3 manual tranny fluid and it made a huge difference. I use Mobil1 in the Armada because I am only letting it go to 5000 miles.
I wonder if there is a difference between RP and Mobil1 with only 5k?
If it were a fluid that did not get changed as often (like diff or tranny) then I would go with RP.
Peter Benger 08-29-2007, 11:26 PM I am sure Mobil1, Royal Purple and AmsOil are great lubricants and worth every penny, but I have to agree with Cillyone, it's a bit of an overkill if oil is changed every 3500 to 4000 miles - as recommended. If I owned an exotic and I was awash in money I would use the afore mentioned oils. For that reason I will stick with my Castrol GTX 10W 30 and my Fram XG7317  Filter. I do change my own oil and at (or as close to) the recommended intervals. I also changed the front & rear differential oil (Valvoline Durablend, synthetic blend) at 3750 miles and intend to do it again at 30K miles; as well as have the trans. and transfercase changed at 30K (by the dealer). So far all of my previous vehicles all survived past 120K miles without any drivetrain issues, so I must be doing somethig right.
If anyone else wants to pamper their Mada, more power to them.:)
F4N4EVR 02-26-2008, 12:25 AM The thing to look at is the wear and tear on the engine. Using synthetic oil and keeping it clean basically stops all wear in the engine. It is a hand me down from the aircraft industry. Once had a 6 cyl continental, ran Aero Shell dino. At 2500 hours the engine ran flawlessly but was worn out. Next engine- ran synthetics. Got to 2500 hours and all specs were in line with a brand new just broken in engine, had to change it anyway due to faa regs...
Had another engine, ran synthetic in it from day one. Was either at about 2000rpm or at 8800. Had to change the oil every 210 hours or 120,000 miles. Beat the living bejesus out of those GE-J-79-10's and never had a wear problem.
Ran it in a land cruiser too, 165000 miles and never needed to adjust the valves (checked every 60K) synthetic is the only way to go. If you swap over from dino, it will clean out every bit of gunk and you may need to change it 2-3 times in the first 3000 miles after changeover to get rid of the gunk. But it will mix readily with dino oil and if you have to switch back from synthetic to dino due to locational access problems, your only concern is the wear starts again.
Drive fast!
cdtretta 04-17-2008, 11:50 PM There are reasons to go with Synthetic over Dyno, but they're primarily heavy heat/heavy use applications. My 07 Vette requires Mobil1, but the oil temp sits at 223 Deg. If you're towing a lot, or you are in high heat applications, I would recommend going synthetic all around as the heat doesn't bother it. Otherwise, use dyno, change it when you're supposed to, and know that you're doing just fine. Always ask for the proof when you're looking at things like this. RP may be a fine oil, and if I was racing competitively with my vette, and .1 of a second was the difference between winning and loosing, I'd probably spring for it.
If you want to get rid of the gunk, use a quart of tranny fluid in the engine 200 or so miles before the oil change. The detergents will flush your engine nicely. No towing during those miles, but just steady driving. Sea Foam also does nice wonders as far as cleaning goes as well.
My humble opinion.
