: Factory NAV system
parasailing 02-16-2007, 04:19 PM I have a 2004 Armada LE that is giving the infamous "Disc Error". Since I have about 60000 miles on the vehicle, it is no longer in warranty. My dealer tells me that all they can do is replace the NAV computer with a new one for $2800.
Does anyone know of a company that repairs these things?
BlakSpyda 02-16-2007, 04:40 PM Welcome to the club parasailing.
I have seen "Disc Error" posted a couple of times, but no one has posted a solution yet, that I know of. Good luck!
GottaMada 02-17-2007, 01:36 AM try a different disc? try cleaning the optical drive?
Wildblue 03-30-2007, 01:40 AM I got that at first with my QX56, and then found that there were some goobers on the DVD. Cleaned the DVD, worked seamlessly ever since.
I would try just cleaning the disc, for starters, which you may have already done.

I am getting the same error...I am surprised they are not trying to replace the DVD Nav unit under the seat.....or is the NAV computer part of that?

Hey Wildblue,,,have you found a disk that works up here?
By the way, we have more than a foot of snow up here and temp already down to the single digits.
drop the hammer 11-11-2008, 02:19 AM So my 2004 Armada LE got the "Disc error" message, i was sad when i searched and could not find a fix. However, i did remember back when i bought this vehicle in 2004 reading on a Nissan forum somewhere that guys were concerned with the location of the Nav DVD player under passenger seat getting dust from foot traffic on the carpet only inches away.
Dealer wanted me to replace the unit (probably as per above bulletin) $$$$.
Disgruntled, I pulled the seat, pulled the Nav DVD player and removed housing. Saw a small red laser light (i plugged it in once opened up), and disk would not spin, it would eject and load, but not spin... must have been disk sensor or something like that (i was hoping it was not the disk spinning motor), anyways blew the sucker out with computer "air duster", and tried again, and it spun the disk and all started working again. PUt her back together and had to deal with the Airbag light, but there's a fix posted for that. that fix worked for me, perhaps you should try this, pretty easy if you can run a ratchet/phillips screwdriver. I don't have very much passenger activity in this vehicle, so i'm not sure if it was just dust/dirty, disk was spotless, although i did clean it first, did not help.
destephan 04-15-2010, 05:54 PM Ok, so i tried blowing in air inside the front disk slot. nothing. Now it does not work at all. Maybe if i take it right out and blow air inside again, might get a better result.
any other help?
thanks,
DE
marctronixx 04-15-2010, 11:38 PM the unit is probably in need of replacement...
drop the hammer 04-16-2010, 12:30 AM You have to remove it completely from the vehicle and then on the bench remove the cover and I think there was a second cover for the lens/disc area. then I used the air duster can and blew it out well. I have also cleaned the laser lens on my home DVD players many times with an alcohol wipe, but I never did that on this one, since the air duster stuff did the fix alone. It has happened again to me, and I did the same fix again. I think i might put a piece of electrical tape over the slot to block dust from getting in there. My armada is immaculately clean, but i'm sure some dust from the carpet gets moved around down under the seat.
