: Stereo Install questions (AVIC-D3 attempt #1)
Blizzard 03-05-2007, 10:23 PM Hey all -
Got my AVIC-D3 from crutchfield delivered this evening.
Over the course of the next 3-4 days...I'm going to attempt installation of the following:
Pioneer AVIC-D3
Sirius Satllite Radio
PAC-SWI-PS (will probably do this after successfully getting the D3 installed)
Pioneer CD-UB100 USB Adapter (will have to add this on at a later time as I just ordered it today after returning the 12cd changer)Basic questions:
Sorry if the following questions are just dumb :) I live approximately 45 minutes from any kind of store that would most likely have the stuff I need. Those two stores are: Home Depot and Wal-Mart.
1. Where do I buy the extra wire leads/taps?
Any certain type/weight? Will I need to find an install shop locally and but this there?
2. I can pick up a cheap Soldering iron at my local PX (Army store) but there is no solder (makes sense, huh!).
Where can I get some Solder? (Home Depot/Wal-Mart?)
3. I think I should be okay doing the actual installation - but may I ask:
Where is the Reverse Light located in the 06' Armada?
Thanks for any and all help!
I'll be posting pics of the installation process once I get going.
Mike

Can't wait 2c the pix.
Mada300z 03-06-2007, 01:19 AM Solder? your best bet if your goin to town, I assume Barstow, is to stop by radio shack since they'll have the solder, wire, accessories and connectors that you'll need. Just be carefull when you choose the wires to tap for the PAC since it's a pain to hold your head unit and play with the steeringwheel controls to program and test. Here's how to read resistor values just in case you didn't know. http://xtronics.com/kits/rcode.htm
this is the Armada specific install for the pac

Everything else should be plug and play
Oh, and did you get the metra 70-7551 wiring harness(circuit city). I used this to plug in my Kenwood ddx 6019 and it sounds great through the stock speakers.
Good luck man and Enjoy that great stereo.
Bye the way I feel for you and Sapper, I'm a Blackhorse member.

Blizzard 03-06-2007, 02:36 PM Okay - went into Barstow this morning...stopped by Wal Mart and they had everything I needed...so didn't need to stop by RatShack.
First mistake: I bought the factory nav bezel from Nissan - however, on the one I got anyway, there is no cutout/spot for the LCD display for the HEAT/AC readings. So, I'll need to get the Metra kit afterall - it does have a scutout/spot for the LCD display. can't believe I didn't ralize this mistake until now :(
So, word to the wise: If you have the HEAT/AC LCD display - the Nissan Navigation bezel won't work for your install. get the Metra Kit (99-7606) and it will work.
I'm picking up the Metra kit (99-7606) tonight from Circuit City (about an hour 1/2 away) - as they say they have it in stock (I called). We'll see when I get there...they better have it!
major confusion on the wiring....as the Armada has 6 different plugs that plug into the back of the factory radio. The wiring harness i got from Crutchfield only has 4 connectors, and only one of those fit anything coming from the Armada. So, either I'm just dumber than I thought or they sent me the wrong one.
Which wiring Harness do i need?
Gonna ask at Circuit City tonight (there is also a stereo shop nearby that I'll hit up as well) but maybe you guys can clue me in before I get there.
Thanks everyone
No pics today - but i should be able to get some tomorrow and the rest of the week. haven't really gotten anywhere with the install other than removing the factory radio and realizing I had the wrong bezel :( Good stuff!
Mada300z 03-06-2007, 02:40 PM metra 70-7551 and you won't be plugging back in the one that goes to the steerinwheel controls. (skinny wide ribbon double stacked with 24 slots. It has an additional connector about 8-10 inches down the line)

Thanks for the help Mada300z - that will help me out a ton...
Now, I have a question on the 70-7551 :)
I have an 06' Armada - non Bose - non factory Nav. - no amps (that I'm aware of anyway)
Everything I read about the 70-7551 says it is an amp integration harness for 1995-2005 Nissan/Infinity
http://www.installer.com/photos/70-7551.jpg
So, this doesn't seem to be the right harness to me?
But I could be wrong - I just wanted to confirm before ordering/trying to find it locally.
Thanks
Mada300z 03-06-2007, 05:09 PM I can not find any hint that the speakers are not still amped down the line (anyone else chime in please). Do you still have a sub under the drivers seat?

No sub in mine...
Blizzard 03-06-2007, 05:43 PM This is the wiring harness that Crutchfield sent me:
70-7550

Mada300z 03-06-2007, 06:22 PM And you say that it only fits one plug from the back of your deck?
Blizzard 03-06-2007, 06:29 PM And you say that it only fits one plug from the back of your deck?
Well, it fits only one plug from the Armada wiring (that was previously plugged into the factory deck) - but I will check again later this evening just to be sure. Maybe I should have my wife try it :)
Thanks for all your help - I think I'm going to stop by a couple stereo install shops tonight and see what they tell me.
Mada300z 03-06-2007, 06:36 PM You should be able to plug in the two conectors that go to the stereo and the others of course back to the A/C, Aux(no longer used), Airbag light and E flashers. The others don;y matter since they go to rear audio control console. You look like you've got everything you need cept that bezel.

The Aux, A/C, Airbag Light, and E Flashers are not part of the problem - as they are separate from the stereo cables.
I know I need to eliminate (tie-away) the radio control plug and the 6cd changer plug. That will leave me with 4 plugs.
Again, many thanks...don't help me any more tonight - let me see where I'm at here later this evening :)
many thnaks for everything! I owe ya'
Blizzard 03-06-2007, 11:24 PM I'm officially a dumba$$
I was not pressing hard enough on the plugs when I was first trying to see if they fit...so the wiring harness from Crutchfield (70-7550) is the right one and fits perfectly. I guess I was just too worried about breaking something that I didn't put enough force when i tried the first time.
I ordered the metra kit from crutchfield tonight as well...should be here Thursday, as I paid for overnight shipping (which cost almost as much as the kit cost!) but I just want to get this thing installed. Did not have time to head into town tonight - but once I figured out that the wiring harness I already had was the right one...I felt much, much better about everything.
I also got the bypass ready (removed the MUTE wire) and put it in the necessary slot in the connector.
In the morning I'll solder up the connections....but have to be at work at noon, so probably won't finish until Thursday evening most likely.
Blizzard 03-07-2007, 12:48 PM Nevermind :)
BacaraArmada 05-10-2007, 01:00 PM I am posting to this thread in hopes of helping others. I have a Bose system and you do not want the 80-7550 plug. This is the plug that has the individual wires for each speaker. Get the 70-7551 harness with the RCA plugs for the speakers. I can't even turn my Pioneer HU up past 10 because it is so loud. Because of this, I can't get my aftermarket sub/amp to hardly hit without turning the amp and settings all the way up. I have ordered the 70-7551 plug and will be changing the harness and hopefully this helps. The Base stereo as per the wiring diagrams is non-amped. The reason the bose is so loud is I am sending an amped signal to the bose and amp and then the bose amp is increasing the signal again. All of my settings are way off, my bluetooth volume is all the way down and it is still too loud. I will update post after I install new harness.
