I recently got my satellite radio hooked up (finally) and have XM currently. From what I can tell though, XM kinda sucks. A buddy of mine has sirius and it totally whips ***.. Just curious if others have found the same?

I have Sirius....love the system. The sound is great. However, not impressed with the programming.

It offers several similar rap stations, plus an old school rap station, but doesn't really offer a basic R&B station. I mean one in which you would hear Usher, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, etc. You know...people who sing instead of, or in addition to rapping.

I also like dancehall Reggae. They have a Reggae station, but it plays too much Roots stuff and not enough Dancehall. Two Reggae stations might be more appropriate.

The old school funk and soul, and ove song stations are pretty good.

Unfortunately, I do not have intimate knowledge of what XM offers to compare.

I have XM and I have the same complaint as you.... I would love to have just a hip/hop or R/B station (current music). I like the old school but some of the songs are before my time  . I like the comedy, but it's the same style over and over again. I don't think there is much difference between the two, but I rather have XM than listen to the station in the local AV area.

I've had Sirius for about a year now. My complaints:

The format on some stations tends to be very similar to radio in that they have a top list of songs that get a lot of airplay. I want variety without having to channel surf.
I don't like having the music interrupted by DJs every third song (or so). What's the point of a DJ when the song info is right on the display. If I want to hear talk, I go to the talk channels.

A friend of mine has XM and I don't have enough experience with it to say they don't repeat. But I haven't heard a DJ.
So all in all, I'm still a subscriber since the overall variety is better than traditional radio, but it's not a gotta have it thing for me anymore.

i have XM and love it....it plays basically all the stuff i want to hear (rock/metal/alternative/etc) .... we have sirius on our satellite tv and ,my wife prefers the sirius country stations over the xm ones..i guess it is just all personal preference
