Fox News is reporting that Terry has passed away. Very sad...

I had typed this up right before I caught the headline:

I've have been pretty surprised at the amount of reaction the Terry Shiavo case has generated among friends of mine who don't follow the news. I was just curious what y'all thought about the situation.

My .02- First off, let me say that I'm a pretty hardcore libertarian all around. That said, I don't see why they won't reinsert the feeding tube just because of all the questions that surround the case. I mean, we'll put a dog to sleep before we let it starve, but they're going to just let this woman die of starvation? If that's the case, why not just end it quickly?

Lots of questions- who knows. It's a crappy situation no matter how you slice it.

Your thoughts?

Agreed. It was odd at first how much attention this story got. But then when you consider it, it's about life and about when life ends, something we all will eventually face but never really consider in our day to day adventures. It's natural to put ourselves in her position and ponder whether or not we'd want to go on. But, when there's no clear answer as to what her choice in the matter was/is, and there are family members volunteering to take on the burden of sustaining her life...I just don't see the harm in keeping her alive.

Either way you feel on it, watching people get hauled off to jail for the criminal act of bringing water to a fellow human being has to leave a sick feeling in your stomach.

For the record, if I end up motionless, hooked to a machine, please leave me plugged in. Finally, some time to relax!

This has been going on for 15 years... there has to an end. There is no way this should have made the news. After 5 years all bets are off; this guy has gone above and beyond in this situation. He didn't start letigation to have the tube removed until 10 YEARS after this incident. I 'm so happy the courts did the right thing and stayed out of this situation.
My final .02, I also am sickened that the family(parents) would fight a husband after what he had to suffer through all these years; and I think if this never made the news she would have been given enough medication that the suffering would have been at a minimum.

It was a lose - lose situation. No bad guys, just a lot of well meaning frustrated folks. It is sad to lose any human life but I think sometimes it is better that you let go and try your best to move on. A case like this that is right on the edge of which way to go is bound to generate controversy. I have deep sympathy for ALL the family members; it had to be an awful experience. :(

It's so nice to see all you RUFF TUFF Armada men show their sensitive side.

Anyway, It really was a terrible situation all the way around. I can see both sides to this story. This was SO SAD. I cried when I hear the news.

All I can say is that my thoughts and prayers are with Terri and both families.
Take care all.

i dont agree with you on that, he suffered so much that he is dating another girl and has kids with her? i dont call that suffering, he seems to have forgetten about her, and whatever his reason was for all of this im sure it only had him and his girlfriend in mind, not whats best for her. I bet within 2 weeks he gets married. Also what the hell kinda country we live in here, just to let her starve? thats nuts, her death would of been handled alot better if she killed 10 people, then they would of put her right to sleep, no pain, but to starve her, thats crazy

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-03-24-schiavo-money-cover_x.htm)
I agree, this wasn't the best way for this to end, but again this didn't happen yesterday (15yrs) and these people (all) should be ashamed, but I really think the majority of the fault falls on the parents... they made this into a circus and for what????? $$$$ There are people dying worst deaths in the streets and in the slums and trailer parks. These people are living starving and hurting daily; so why is it all of a sudden major news.... $$$$$$
what a horrible guy (http://www.miami.edu/ethics2/schiavo/timeline.htm)
