Saturday afternoon, just left a store when I noticed that the brake light was still on. The parking brake was already disengaged. I applied the brakes and heard a terrible noice (deep grinding noices). Tried setting on and off on the parking brakes and it did not go away. I did not try turning on and off the car so that the mechanic can see the problem since I was just about two miles from the dealership. Technician test drove the car and he said it might be an ABS problem. I dont have extended warranty on the truck. Any ideas how much this problem might be?

How many miles you got on it? The ABS could be an issue, but there is also a bearing problem that can cause your brake light to come on. With the grinding though, I would lean towards either brakes (not ABS) or bearings.

Had the exact same issue with my QX56. I took it to the dealer the very next day and of course it wasn't doing it and they said well it looks like everything is ok. Yeah right. My wife was driving it at the time, but she said it sounded like ABS and it smelled really bad when she got home. Then after that nothing everything worked fine.

Got a little over 60k. Tech said it felt and sounded like an ABS problem. Dealer wont be able to look at it until tomorrow.

Some others on this forum have had this problem, I don't remember the solution. Might try a search, at least you'll know if the dealer is ripping you off.

Good luck. Hope it doesn't get outta hand with the cost!

Does the problem dissappear after turning the vehicle off? Are the noises thumping and sproing sounding noises? If so, it requires a reprogramming of the trucks computer (something to do with the interaction of traction control and anti-lock brake function). The problem is, the dealership can't diagnose it unless it is actually happening at the time you bring it in and of course once you turn it off, it goes away. My brother is a service tech a Nissan dealership and they have had several instances of it occuring, including my truck. The code that has to be pulled for the reprogramming does not stay in the system once you turn the truck off. I'm still waiting for the next occurence (it has happened twice to me) so I can take the truck to a dealer while the code is active.

This is the exactly what happened. I did not turn the vehicle off so that the tech can see the problem. The code was C1179. Paid $220.00 for the diagnostic and to reprogramm.
