: Take a look Metra vs. Scosche

Well, I finally found a kit that I like. I do not like the Metra Kit so I thought I would post this thread for others to see.

Metra:
99-7606 Double Din Kit. I do not like the trim ring that has to snap in around the stereo.

Scosche:
NN1453B Double Din Kit. I think this looks a lot cleaner and you get your AUX plug on the front. I have ordered this kit, but it is backordered. I attached an ad from TitanTalk, but I am not sure if this is a store ad or if Scosche makes the AUX plug that goes into the factory aux jack. Also, looking at the ad, the NN1453b may match the new radio panel color (silver) on my 07 instead of the regular gray color.

I will keep you posted when I get the kit and how it looks.

The green ad is from the Scosche catalog.

I just talked to Scoshe and they said this product is slated for May/June 2007 availability and will include the aux plug. The guy didn't know about the color, but my hopes are high.

Keep us posted on the release. I'm looking to get something in the next week or so. The Scoshe looks like a better setup. I never even noticed the lose of the AUX jack on the Metra kit.

Thanks for the post.

I'll probably upgrade to the Scosche NN1453B from the Metra as well...I was a little too rough when installing my AVIC D3 and made a few scratches here and there on the kit...and I was probably going to order another Metra sometime soon. So, I'll just wait for the Scoshe now...thanks for the post!

Well, because I am desperate for a dash kit to get all these toys I have installed, I ordered the Metra off of ebay. Once the Schoshe comes in I will be changing the Metra kit out. Again, I will keep you guys posted on how each one looks and which one is better since I will be trying both of them.

as soon as opened the metra kit i was disapointed in the color too. it doesn't even match the gray on the dash (slight diff) and as far as the aux. input does that even have a purpose with the factory HU gone or does it tie into tha amp. directly. just wondering.

I am very disapointed in the Metra kit as well. Very cheap and the color match is off. Also, the panel does not align along the top. I am hoping when I get the Scosche is better and it is silver like my 07 or atleast a gray that matches. The AUX plug is not needed, but with the Scosche you can plug it into the A/V input of your aftermarket HU so you can still plug an audio source into your unit via the dash. Guess if you are on a road trip or something you can plug a friends MP3 player into the dash.

Did I also mention that crappy material that is now warpping due to the heat being over 100 now. Hopefully it atleast holds up for Scosche kit.

Well, I finally received the NN1453b. First, I have to say the setup is a lot better then the Metra kit.

Pros:
1. The radio does not mount to the trim panel so you don't have to worry about the bending and crap like the Metra.
2. The kit does come with the AUX plug so you can still use it with an aftermarket HU.

Cons:
1. If you have an AVIC-Z2 like me, you cannot use the Double Din sleeve that comes in the kit. You have to use your factory brakets and the little black trim piece that came with the Z2. Not a big deal, just took my an hour to figure out how to do this since the DD sleeve sets the unit back and does not give you enough room behind HU to plug wires in (I tried, don't bother). Actually looks better since it brings the unit flush with the trim panel.
2. As I was hoping color match was better then the metra kit, it is a little off, but atleast the trim panel lines with curves of dash.

Overall, I would go with Scosche over the Metra, Metra kit offers more room behind the HU for wires, but come on why would I want to mount my HU a trim panel that has no support vs. mounting to the fatory location.

I will post pics when I can. Hopes this helps others that have the LCD for A/C controls.

I just removed a Metra kit and replaced it with the Scosche one and I must say the Scosche is a much better product. I have an Avic-D3, so I ran into the same issue as BacaArmada as far as depth is concerned. The Scosche kit itself will not allow for the double din Pioneers to be installed without some kind of modification, but I took a little different approach. First off, I apologize for not taking pics of my work, but I'll try to explain it. The head unit itself fit fine, but the Scosche harness sat up a little too far which did not allow the front panel to snap into place. I noticed that the harness itself sat on top of the head unit and gave about 1/4" - 1/2" buffer, which was keeping it from sliding farther back. I actually took a dremmel and just shaved off that extra plastic, which allowed the harness to sit farther back on the radio. You have to be careful, however because if you shave too much off, you'll damage the harness itself. After doing this I found it fit perfect! I understand it may be hard to visualize what I did without actually having the Scosche kit, so if anyone needs help just send me a message and I'll try to explain it a little better. I did take a quick pic of the finished product, though so everyone can see the fit. As BacaArmada said, the color is still slightly off, but it's a lot better than the Metra kit.

I'm gonna have to agree with everyone with the Metra kit. I'm not too impressed with the kit's color but for now its functional with the stereo. As for the input, I never really used it anyway.

Hey Tripp, that color looks much better than the Metra. Looks good. Guess I'm gonna have to swap.

Guess by reading all of the comments, best way to go is with the Scosche. I'll keep that in mind for the near future.
