Anyone in the midwest using E 85? The price in Springfield, IL was $2.79 vs. $3.24 for unleaded.

Peoples who report using E85 get worst milage than dino gasoline. So in the long run it's not much of a saving.

Alcohol (= volume) does not have the same energy (BTU) content as gasoline, roughly half.

The thought is that as more people use it the cost will go down and it will lesson the dependancy on foreign oil.

That said, I read an article on E85 and it is no where near ready for prime-time. Too bad, I would like to do something about these gas prices.

Well seems to me the E85 is trying to ride the bandwagon with gasoline. When price of gas go up around here I see E85 right behind them.

e85 seems like junk

i wouldnt put it in my car

yes its higher octane but there are a few guys running it in thier built mustangs and it requires 30% more fuel than regular gas

so your really not saving any $$ when your putting in more e85

it seems to me that E85 would have to go up when gas goes up. It is 85% gasoline, isn't it?

IMHO, E85 won't last very long. I don't believe it to be a viable solution to the gas "crisis." I don't think it's junk, I just don't think it makes economic sence. I do however, think that it's nice to see somethng being done. I'd rather see companies trying a lot of new things to see if they will work than doing nothing at all. There doesn't seem to be an end-all be-all solution in the near future but if companies stop trying, we all lose.

Actually it's 85% Ethanol and 15% gasoline. I understand it has to go up but shouldn't follow gasoline so close price wise.:D

I have hopes for E85........but I am a realist. I haven't seen a station carry it yet here in California. I fully understand it won't return as many miles per gallon as gasoline...........but like someone else mentioned, it would be a great gesture if nothing else to the oil contries of the world, that we don't "need" you.

Oh well, it's not like my 2006 Armada can run on it anyway! ;)

Only select regional 2007+ models can do it. My 2007 does not have E85 capability as I am in NY.

There was a great article a few months ago in Automobile magazine. The writer tried to run his car on all E85 in corn country and had nothing but problems both mechanically and just finding the stuff.

When he took it to the dealer they told him he should not run it all the time. I appreciate that at least someone is thinking outside of the box, but E85 is a bandaid at best - hydrogen fuel cell seems to be a better long term solution. Unfortunately that is 10 years away.

FYI! If you have an '06 Titan or an '07 or '08 Armada/Titan and the 4th character in your VIN is a "B" then you have a FFV.

I hear ( a rumor at best) that you can convert earlier models to eccept E-85 and it was an under $300 mod. any one know the truth.

Never heard that one! With the amount of times (frequency) you would have to fill up on E85 you would eat up that $300 right away!
