Hi All i was wondering if there are any suggestion for more power. I am pulling a 28 ft travel trailer and all the north american trucks are passing me. I have an 07 armada and have installed a NISMO intake and a magnaflow catback exhust. Are there any chips out there? What would a 2 degree timing do for me?

Welcome Ash-man.

I have a 33'10" travel trailer and have no problem pulling. What is the weight on your trailer? It might only be 28 ft. but may be pretty heavy.

If you continue to have problems, there is a blower from Stillen you can get to help you along. Little over $5K plus time installing it.

Welcome to the club ash-man. 2 degree may help. Not sure how much for towing though. It improved my performance, but I haven't towed anything yet.

cool thanks for the tips guys. the dry weight is est 5500 pounds. She goes now but I have a feeling she's working for it. I thought about the supercharger.. but here in Canada it would run me est. $10,000 Can. What does the 2 degree timing advance do? So are there chips ?

Stillen has just released their piggy back controller which is supposed to add about 30 HP. You can also send your ECM to UpRev for a reflash.

Keep in mind the trucks that are passing you are probably diesels. They have +/- 600 ft lbs of torque, so if both given the same trailer, the diesel will of course be faster.

As far as gasoline V8's, there's really only 2 that are "better" than the Nissan 5.6. One is the 5.7 Tundra, and the other is the GM 6.2 when mated to the 6-speed AT.

One thing you should ask yourself......does your setup have adequate power already? Or are you trying to keep up with the big boy diesels? It's OK to ride in the slow lane at the speed limit if it means getting to your destination safely.

Also the supercharger sounds awesome for sure, I have thought about it myself. But the problem is, there's at least 3 guys at ClubTitan with blown engines. Check it out before you go that route.......some are saying it was an installation problem, but be sure to do your research.

p.s......I doubt the Nismo intake is helping you while towing. I suspect the factory intake might be better.

Until someone here on CA says otherwise, I still doubt that the 5.7 Tundra is really better in real life. So far, I haven't seen one meet up to the exaggerations in the advertised hype.

I'm surprised you think you are lacking in power. My trailer weighs about the same as yours, and I don't have any trouble going as fast as I ever want to go. Up hills, it has to be pretty steep before I drop below 60, and hills that steep are affecting most other trucks, including diesels, the same as they are affecting me. ?????

I am more inclined to believe you have a ringer of an Armada rather than the Tundra is overrated. All the "hype" came about because of actual real world 0-60 times from Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Truck Trend, Autoweek, Road and Track etc. It's not like Toyota just picked out of thin air the fastest 0-60 times, and said, yep let's use those! ;)

p.s. Pops, I like your sig pic!

Thanks!!! I'd be more inclined to believe it was that particular Tundra then, if you're right. My bro was going to take one out this last Saturday so we could run them but his house got broken into Friday afternoon so we spent the evening boarding up the door and he has been sick to his stomach since.

Also a few runs down the street is not even close to the same thing as towing a Trailer around the Country. Do you really think the Tundra tows stronger?

Do you really think the Tundra tows stronger?I guess that's the million dollar question! lol I personally "think" it would tow better. But that's my opinion, and I wouldn't even call it a great opinion, because I haven't even driven a Tundra yet. ;) I really think the fact Toyota's 5.7 is coupled with a 6-speed AT makes a nice difference too.

It's pretty neat to watch Toyota's truck/towing comparison videos. They have all the major players lined up: Ford 5.4, Dodge 5.7 Hemi, Chevy 6.0, Nissan 5.6, and Tundra 5.7. You can really see the Tundra JUMPS off the line due to it's ungodly 4.30 rear gears. But the Titan hangs with it pretty well (it's second place through out), and then you can see the Tundra pull at higher RPM's it seems too. But again, the Nissan is still spitting distance away. I think the Titan's weight which is quite a bit lower than the Tundra is what keeps it as close as it is.

I do think in the real world the Tundra's extra weight and longer wheelbase would make for a better tow vehicle than the Armada.................BUT you can't seat 8 people in the Tundra (or Titan for that matter), plus long wheelbases suck a$s in suburbia parking lots! I still feel the Armada is the best all 'round full-size SUV! There's nothing for sale right now that I would consider trading it for. :D

Ive taunted a few new tundra's already. They calim to be lighter than our armadas even with their biggest motor. None wont race me. Its hard to get trucks SUV's to race.

Maybe they're worried that they might get beat. ;)

Well, to settle it would be easy. Can the new tundra beat a SLT Hemi two wheel drive Truck?? I can only keep up with one, but its always a good race. We are talking real time racing , not quartermile based off of road and track.
