Calling for help from security system/electronic hardware guys - My son has a 1985 Toyota 4X4 truck that is soon to have tube doors for the summer and I would like to buy him a security system for his birthday. I was thinking since the truck is going to wide open (tube doors/unlocked) most of the time there should be some sort of motion sensors for the interior space. There seems like there must be systems designed for open Jeeps that would be applicable for his truck. He does not need a lot of bells and whistles (remote start ..etc..), just anti theft for the truck itself and interior stuff I think. Thanks in advance.

Well if it's a crazy stripped out crawler where mostly everythings relocated, have him figure out a quick easy location to just take the ECU out with him. :)

He is still going to have a stereo and personal belongings inside to keep safe.
From reading these, it looks like Viper makes one with a Proximity Sensor and Pager. They also say it's a good idea to put a switch under the hood too so that it goes off if someone pops the hood. Maybe in case someone could reach in and pop the hood undetected???

If thats the case, alarm or not, someone is still going to able to do a smash and grab. How about bolting a tough box of sorts under the seat, or in the bed somewhere, where he can keep his personal stuff in?
I would check around the Jeep forums, and poke around some of the companies that sell this sort of thing of the Jeep crowd. Ive seen locking hidden slide out boxes and such before, for th open, toppless Jeeper's.

Good thinking Chris!!!! He might also be able to use a Sentry Safe from Sam's Club and bolt it down to the floorboard.

Clifford makes a good one with proximity and shock sensors. Good stuff. I would have it professionally installed. They are a bear. I did them for a few years in college. ;)

dei makes proximity sensors and what not. but a tuffy center console and glove box lid might be the best bet. also, tuffy makes nice "trunks" that you can bolt just about anywhere. i have had 3 jeep wranglers and all of them have had tuffy consoles and glove box doors. they are absolutly unbreakable. and the tuffy center console has a stereo slot for a single din cd player that has a lockable lid over it, so no one will even know the stereo is there. check it out http://www.tuffyproducts.com/consoles/center/deluxe_stereo.html

Chain a 100 pound Rottweiler to his truck!
