: Why doesn't Nissan have 2 degree as stock?

With so many people advancing their timing 2 degrees, why doesn't Nissan adjust this as a factory default?
Is there any downside to the advance?
I'm sure Nissan engineers are aware of any small tweaks that give them free hp and tq.
Any ideas out there?

I have wondered the same thing...I asked the Tech who did mine and he thinks it may have to do something with emissions. I would like to know the correct answer though too.

Nissan tunes the engines for long life, not performance. This is not saying the 2 deg advance will shorten engine life!
The advance will give quicker throttle response, and better off the line performance.

Just an added note and side effect of the 2 degree timing advance. I have said this before, but my mileage has improved. I am not sure why, but my theory is that because the engine is performing more efficient, I am not wasting fuel. I just had it on the highway over the weekend for my family reunion and my highway mileage has gone up to 17 mpg with 13 around home and work. I was only getting from 11-15 before.

If Nissan had advance the timing from factory, we would all sit around and still try to find a way to advance it more. Just how it is.:D

Since the dealer is willingly doing this, I am assuming there are no warranty issues...I will contact one of the dealers locally to see how they feel about it here in Texas...

I am only considering doing it because of the so claimed fuel efficiency increase.

Not all dealer will do this or even know how. If you find a dealer willing to do it, print out the how to by SCR38 and bring it with you. Should not affect your warranty as it's still in Nissan parameter for timing.

I was in Nissan of McKinney a few months ago to buy my front Mud Flaps while visiting my brother. When I asked them if they had many requests for it, they said they've done it on a few Titans. Of course, that's assuming that I was getting an honest answer.

Does anyone know of a shop in Canada that will do it. I asked a nissan dealership and they responded with a "what advance", no clue... They then asked me "Why would you want to do that"? Not the shop to go to for any mods...

It is very simple to do. I'd just print off the directions on the forum and bring them with you.

I would say it has to do with the octane available. Having it 2degress advanced in some areas can cause pinging with the water downed fuel we get here and in Cali. This could cause engine issues later on and/or have all the customers running higher oct to prevent the pinging. I'm pretty sure those are the reason why Nissan didn't do it. I don't see it doing anything to hurt emissions in any way. If anything it is a better/cleaner burn.

I'm currecntly running 91oct here because of a slight ping I have been hearing without the 2degree advance. So I'm still on the edge if I should get it done or not.

I am using 87 octane. No ping w/outstanding performance!

Can this be done on an 07 Mada? I'm sure it's been covered but I'm lazy right now!:D

Sweet, I'll have to have them do it when they do my next oil change.

On that note...since you can't watch them do the advance, how do you know it's done?

They can give a printout from their Consult III...It should have the before and after results.

You got it!! As of this last Saturday, I now have a newborn Nephew there. It'll probably be a little while before they want the rest of us around but I'll be down there to see him as soon as they give the ok. :D

Has anyone done here done or know of maybe over at the Titan site if someone has dyno'd before and after the 2 degree advance.
I'm real curious about the real results. The seat of the pants dyno is pure mental.
I do believe it helps. I've advanced timing on almost all of my past cars. Question I have is just how much.

What would be an reasonable price for this? Also, Should you reset the ecu before doing the advancement? My dealer wants $45. Blakspyda did you just get the advancement and do nothing else? I would love to get aleast a little better gas mileage! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Don't reset the ECU. $45.00 from a dealer is a good price. There are a lot of people like me that have the software to do the advance. I do free advances at meets. Most of us ask for about $20.00, just to help get back some the money we are out on the software.

if you dont use Premium gas you will encounter pinging in the long run..

if you guys really want to increase performance change your camshafts or turbo or ECU reflash
