Competition for the Optima Yellow Top or is the Optima still better?
inqui-Z-tor 07-24-2007, 10:30 AM I got one a few months ago .. (for my 84 Z31) ..
EagerCrow 07-24-2007, 12:02 PM I just replaced my 1.5 year old yellow top optima with one.
spta97 07-24-2007, 12:20 PM I got one a few months ago .. (for my 84 Z31) ..
What do you think of it? I noticed it is pretty heavy (56lbs.) but the Armada is so bloated I doubt it is noticable.
spta97 07-24-2007, 12:20 PM I just replaced my 1.5 year old yellow top optima with one.
Did you have problems with the optima? I have read that the Red top is better for an all around battery.

I went to Sears for a Red Top Optima .. but was told that Sears quit carrying the Optima(s) .. and were pushing the Platinum instead. I needed a battery for my Z. The old Diehard .. was dead!
When the OEM battery in the Armada dies .. I'll probably go for the Platinum ..
TanK1 07-24-2007, 11:19 PM OPTIMA is the way to go...Been using the red tops on all my vehicles since '99 and never had one die on me and I had systems on half of those vehicles. Never heard of that battery but I can tell you one thing that's for sure..You can't go wrong with an OPTIMA...baby!
mich05 08-01-2007, 10:47 AM I ordered a Optima D-34 Yellow Top which the customer service Rep said was the correct one for the Armada. However when it arrived the connectors were on the left/fender side. I contacted the Mfg and they said the correct battery for your vehicle is the yellow top D-34R. I called the Customer service again and said I need the D-34R Yellow Top. I was told they have discontinued that battery...I said then why did you send any battery since you don't carry the correct one. They said we will send you a label for free return shipping.
I noticed the email about the Die-hard P-1 and tried to order but no listing for the Armada. I called the store the guy looked up the application for the Armada. Sorry we don't make one for the Armada.....So I am S.O.L:mad:
I saw the Optima Yellow, Red, and Blue tops in the automotive dept of Sam's Club this last weekend.
inqui-Z-tor 08-01-2007, 05:15 PM Food for thought ..
As I posted .. I was looking for the Optima Red Top .. but it was with some concern. I had heard (I didn't confirm this) that Optima was bought out by another battery company? The new company DOES NOT mfg the new Optimas with the same quality control as the older batteries (ie .. cashing in on the Optima reputation)
Quite a few of my Z-car associates have reported numerous optima problems in the past few (2-3) years ..
primoV8 08-01-2007, 10:50 PM Optima was bought and are manufactured by Interstate Batteries.. but this happened several years ago. i've used the Optima red top and never had a problem with them.
ken_taylor 08-02-2007, 12:15 PM I purchased an Interstate battery around the first of the year, so far no problems.

I had a similar issue when I tried to get one for my Maxima. The connectors were just in the wrong place.
mich05 08-03-2007, 05:10 PM I find it difficult to understand why they don't make one for the Armada.

crash4444 11-02-2007, 04:03 PM It is getting cold here quickly and my battery is on its last leg. So I called Sears and they assured me the Platinum P-1 would work on my Armada, drove down there only to find out that the terminals were on the opposite sides and they would need to replace my wires as they were not long enough for this setup. So some of you have posted that you have this battery, how did you make it work? Also, if I can't get the Platinum P-1, which Optima is the best for my vehicle? Thanks
scr38 11-02-2007, 04:21 PM Sears does have a Die Hard for the Armada. They just don't know it. I recently had my original battery fail. I have the tow package with the heavy duty battery. It is a group 27F, which is hard to find. The 27F has the reversed terminals like we need. Sears told me they didn't have a group 27 battery that will fit the Armada, but they do. Look at the Diehard International, it is a 27F and works fine. The hold down groove is a little narrower in it, but it will work. I have one in my Armada. It has a five year free replacement, pro-rated after that.
The battery has 710 CCA; 155 min. reserve.
crash4444 11-06-2007, 07:28 PM I ended up going hard core after reading some posts on the Titan Talk Forum, I purchased the Odyssey PC1700MJT, ordered it online and should receive it tomorrow. I have aftermarket HID lights and they seem to really drain the OEM battery even if they are on for only a few minutes after I turn off the engine. Anyway, I hate dead batteries so I was willing to pay the price for this one. Here is a post from the Titan Talk Forum if you want any more information on it.

Interesting - HIDs draw less power than regular halogens (35watts) so I wonder if your problem is not the lights but just a battery (or something else)
crash4444 11-07-2007, 01:29 PM I am going to the dealer for some work tomorrow so I will have them check the electrical system just in case, thanks for the heads up.
