Hey everyone...howz everyone been doing? I know I have been MIA for a while. But I got a new major problem. Yesterday I was out running errands all morning. Went home to rest before my next appt. for the day. Drive out of my cul-de-sac and when I went to press on my brakes...MAJOR grinding/groaning noise. It was like metal against metal. My husband said that it was like the rear brakes weren't working and only the front was trying to stop the Mada.(He went out and felt the rotors and front was hot and back was cold) I was freaking because it sounded like if I pressed the brakes hard enough it would break and I would have NO brakes. I called the dealership and brought it in right away...driving slow and down shifting to help me stop with out having to put to much pressure on the brakes. It made the noises everytime on the way and it felt awful. Oh yeah and the brake indication light were on. Got there and turned off my Mada. When they started it brake indication light went off and no brake problem. They told me that a few Mada's came in with that same problem. They checked the puter to see what the brake indicator light meant but couldn't find anything. Said they were going to change all brake pads and resurface the rotors and reprogram the puter. But they think that my aftermarket rims may be the culprit. I don't know about that. I seen tons of aftermarket rims on Madas and can't believe that it would be a factor. Any one have this similar problem? Or any ideas? Oh yeah..the service writer told me that there was another type of TSB out on a brake problem. Any advice/help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Should have left it running... I had to bring in my Mada 2 weeks ago cause the TPMS light was constantly on for about 1 month and when i made the appointment.. the first question was "did you change your rims?" They always find a way to blame something else for the cause so they can save on warranty claims and charge money for work done. So how much did they charge you?

I had a problem similiar on the hghway a while ago. Once I shut the engine off and started it back up, no more problem. The Brake, VDC Off, Slip lights started acting up afterwards (I don't have the computer) and I took it to the dealer. Needed a brake job.

That's odd but bery glad to hear that they fixed it. As far as it being the wheels...it can't be or it would have happened at all times.

In this case, changing your rims would set off the TPMS light because there is no sensors in them. However, I agree with you.

What I don't get is that they still get paid for warranty work so why do they care?

Yeah...that's what we said after the light went off...that we should have left it running. They didn't charge me anything....they better not. We have been having other "issues" with my Mada, a pretty loud ticking/tapping noise upon start-up...and what ticks me off is they tried to "top off" with heavier oil to make the sound go away..what the heck is that? Well my service writer is nice and she said to just bring it in when the noise comes back, because it's noted in the system that a tech heard the noise. It sounds like a rocker-arm making noise.

My truck did the same thing the other morning. Was leaving the neighboorhood and i didn't notice that the E brake light was still on. The first time I stopped it was like the brakes were skipping. I put the E brake on and off a few times but the light would not go off. Pulled back into my driveway and turned the truck off and then back on again and everything was working normal again. it hasn't done it since so I haven't taken it in...but I do have factory rims so i know that's not the problem. Any help would be great...

thanks,

Had the same problem, the code was C1179. For me, I was close to the dealership so I didn't turn the truck off so that they can see for themselves.

This is a software problem. If you shut off the engine and restart it will reset. The dealer can reflash to solve the problem.

I would at least print out a few pages of the TSB NTB06-040 to the dealer. Tell them that your brake issue matches the description of this TSB. I think if they follow this procedure, they could come up with a code (DTC C1179).

I've had a very similar problem. However it has happened a few times. It's not so much a grinding noise, but it is like the brakes catch and the pedal goes a bit too far and you hit the brakes too hard. You hear a sound like the spring on the pedal is catching on something. The pedal feel gets all messed up and you have to turn the truck off to get rid of the problem. You still have pressure since the pedal won't go to the floor. It won't make the sound when you aren't moving and pumping the brakes, just when you are coming to a stop. I've been waiting for it to happen again, so I can take it in while the lights (brake, slip, and VDC) come on and I don't shut it off. Those bozos seem not to be able to figure anything out unless it is in the midst of a problem. If anyone knows what the real problem is, let me know.

I had the same brake problem in May. They had to re-program the VDC control unit. No problems ever since.

Computer needs to be reprogram. Code is C1179.

:hi:

Hi everyone. I am new to this site after it was told to me. I have a 2004 Armada and had the same problem with my brakes also. Once i turned it off and started it back up, it has worked fine. I have another problem when i put my truck in gear, it makes a loud sound like the gears are going to fall out. Anyone else had that problem?

Welcome to the Club!!!! :hi:

The Gears Sound you're talking about, is that when pulling it out of "Park" while parked on slight slope??

All of this sounds very familiar. We have an '04 Armada LE with factory rims. It happens pretty frequently where we will drive it and the brakes will grind heavy, the light comes on, etc. We turn it off, it resets itself... Took it to the dealership and again no code or visible issues found.

They tell us there is nothing they can do. We have 80% of brakes/rotors left.

Baffling!!!

Welcome to CA Indy Archy Guy!

Next time it happens, ask them to flash or reset the BCM. That should take care of it!
