The Armada has a pretty high load floor and I'm sure lots of younger dogs can jump in and out but as they get older it gets a bit tougher. I was wondering what everyone uses to get their pets in and out of the back of the vehicle - dog ramps?

we bought a folding/sliding carpeted dog ramp for our lab. i think it was about $100 at petsmart.com. however since he is only 2 years old we just flip the 2nd row seat forward and he just jumps into the car and then takes his place in the 3rd row. i'm sure that is not the best for his hips or legs but the ramp really freaks him out.

I just give the command "IN THE BACK" and he jumps in the rear hatch entry. I always cage my German Shepard while riding in the Armada, other wise there is hair and nose prints all over the place.

I bought a heavy duy (thick canvas) seat cover for the 3rd row and I have a plastic mat for the third row that also covers the rear hatch area as well. The hair is contained but the nose prints and flying saliva are everywhere.

The way I figure it, we drive a truck/suv not an exotic sports car. Now when I hit my mid-life crisis and its subsequent vehicle purchase we'll re-evaluate Bacon's auto options at that time...

Thanks for the info. My last Great Dane had trouble getting in and out of higher vehicles towards the end of his days so some type of ramp is going to be mandatory. He loved going for car rides.

We've got two labs that are getting a little old. Acutally the oldest can still hop up into the Armada but the younger has some mild arthritis and I've been picking him up (80 pounds of lab!).

My next purchase is going to be a Twist Step (www.twistep.com)

Got a buddy who uses this with his Berner to get into the MDX. It requires a little bit of training for the dog to be comfortable with the step, but it works great.

That twistep looks great and would come in handy since you don't have to toss it into the truck after using it. Very cool.
