Fastest or quickest? Those are two totaly completely different factors. i.e. You have two heads up drag racers. One could have a 1/4 mile time of 13.99 @ 88 mph and the other could be 14.38 @ 90 mph. You'd have one who's the quickest and the other that's the fastest in the 1/4.

So what was your question again? :D

well,,, if i said 1/4 then fastest or quickest does not matter,, what matter is who finish first or best time.... on the other hand, i don't mind knowing both....lol:D

It can be a toss up. Like I said in the given example car 1 is quicker, but car 2 is faster and is catching up! The only way to really know which of the two vehicles I listed as an example, which are close to realistic figures to my guestimation, is to actually race and find out on a legal drag course or sanctioned event.

Ok, just thought of this...think of bracket racing. One car is quicker, the other slower, but faster. The slower vehicle takes off first for a split moment before the quicker vehicle takes off. Within the first 60' there is substantial difference between the two. At the 1/8 it's closer, but at the end of the 1/4 they should both be passing relatively at the same time...but one beats the other my X.XX seconds. That help understand why I was trying to differentiate the difference in the two? And I think the only way to prove who's the quickest/fastest is to either post a video proving your time or scanning a time slip (which I wouldn't trust that much because it could be someone elses). G-tech's (no offense SCR38) and other digital meters are close guestimations of what the vehicle can do, but the real truth behind it all is at the drag strip.

i dig all what you saying, so who claimed the best 1/4 time in our club?

In what vehicle? Shane, aka. BoricuaSS, has a 1500 hp Impala SS that I think has us all beat.

BoricuaSS
12-07-2007, 07:42 AM
The SS is a high 8's sec car and this is because is a heavy car, at over 5K LBS, in compare to regular 3K LBS sports cars. But I think its not even fair to compare to a regular car or suv, since the SS was built for destruction...lol

which brings a point if any of you guys are ever in Miami and really want to get the best custom performance job, look for a place call TBK Performance. He does my cars and he is the one that got my SS as bad as it is. Also he will be putting the Turbo on my Mada whenever, he stops asking for money for the SS...LOL ha ha ha ha Im going broke with hobbie...lol

I am talking about the fastest armada in the club!!!!!! can we make high 13 with our mada and without nitros?

Qaher, I'm most certain that you have the fastest Armada in the club. Do you have your 1/4 times yet??? I've been eager to see what you're running. As for the 13's 1/4 w/o NOS, if a Titan can do it, the Armada can too but I think that would be a tough stretch for either.

Post up your 1/4 times. If you can get some 1/8 times and some 1/2 times that'll help us know whether you need more low-end torque or high-end power. I'm really thinking that you're probably about ready for Cams, don't you think??

Bob,
are you saying that no one in the club has my mods or even close to mine???!!!
I am waiting for uprev to come then after that i will take it to see how much it will do in the 1/4. if I like it i will stick with it or i will go with the cams... i just been busy lately and i am waiting for uprev to finish cracking our middle east ecu.. how fast is an esclade? can i beat it? also a tuned H3 wants to race with me.. I am just waiting for uprev then i will be busy killing other rides.. so, do you know an armada that made low 14s ?????? I need to compare mods to see how fast my mada can go!!! once i get the osiris then i will get some 1/8 times,,,, just can't wait to get uprev,,, oh, by the way, i cut the last 12'' of my exhaust tailpipe and drone is gone,,so any one has drone just cut those 12'' from the tailpipe and no more drone,, titan guys already tried that and i think i am the only armada.. talk to you later.

Does being SuperCharged disqualify you? Probably not. Does anybody know what you can run in the 1/4 Supercharged pushing out at least 7-8lbs. If I had the money that's the way to go. Qaher...grab the cams and show us your timeslips. Anybody else got any? How about SCR38...he's got 14's.

Qaher, not to veer off topic but I noticed in your sig that you have Vibrant's resonators. Are you referring to Vibrant Performance? If so, I was sponsored by them years ago when they first came out. Gotta dig through some boxes, maybe I still have some catalogs hiding somewhere with my del Sol on the front cover. Anyways...they make great products. :D

My 04 Armada is a SE with the tow package. I have the Volant V3 CAI, Airaid TBS, TB coolant bypass, grounding kit, Gibson SS single cat back, and Uprev tune. The tune is presently for 89, I am retuning it soon for 93. Stock 18" wheels with Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires, stock size.
No track near to get actual track times, but have made dozens of runs with G-Tech Pro. I have found the unit to be very accurate.
I have had several 0-60 runs below 6 seconds, the best is a 5.81.
My best 1/4 time is a 14.47, and have several very near that time.
I will be in Austin next week, and will put the Armada on the dyno for the retune to 93 if UpRev can work me in.
Wheel spin is an issue. I think I can get better times if I can do a better job driving off the line.

Qaher, I don't think anyone who's active here is as mod'd as you are. GGeorgie, Haji, and Bishop were all working on theirs but I think you are ahead of them. Like Scr38 said, make sure you're running Lightweight Wide Sticky Tires on the rear when running. Norcal05SE and a few of the others can help point you into the right direction for those.

I think you should probably be able to toast the H3 no matter what he has. Those inline 5-cyl motors were built more for fuel efficiency than power and I think they might be limited on what you can get from them. As for the Caddy, those monsters are powerful. Depending on his tunes, I think you should be able to get a small lead on him if you have enough traction. If not, we need to know where he leaves you behind at, I'm guessing that it'd be on the high-end.

thanx scr38 for the info,,, so the main gain is the uprev tune!!!! i can't wait to see what is it gonna do with my mada.. Bob,, forgot to tell you that i will get the pulley set before the cams !!!!:D this will never end,, someone has to stop the modding fever...lol

Pops

Nice!!!! The pulley set should help a little all the way across the spectrum kinda like lighter tires would. I haven't seen any aftermarket Serpentine Belts for these but they help a bit on Sup'd cars because they are made of better compositions that have less stretch than the OEM rubber one and can be lighter in weight than the OEM belt.

are you saying that even the belt material would make different?????

Pops
12-09-2007, 10:42 AM
Yes, I'm pretty sure it's the material (kinda like how the material composition affects tires' performances) but I never got too much into the "Why"s. I'm not sure of what they're made of but the ones we used to use were usually a bit wider on wider pulleys too. A couple of times, we'd have an engine apart replacing the Cams, Timing Pulleys and Timing Belt anyway and just go ahead and do the Serpententine while we were at it so maybe I'm wrong about this but I was told a few times that it'd make a difference.

It maybe pointless anyway because their might not be anything available for us anyway but it could be worth looking into. I wouldn't even know where to begin looking these days but someone on here probably does.

If I were you, I'd ask cpaul. He'll be able to tell you if this is wrong.

If you don't plan on doing any heavy towing then I say go for it. But if you do I advise that you don't. Flex-a-lite advises against heavy towing when switching to their electric fans.

Hight 17.5
width 27.5
thickness 4.0
CFM 4,600

Personally, I wouldn't run an Electric Fan if living in the Desert but it will help reduce Engine Drag.

IMHO: I'd look into a aftermarket high performance lightweight fan instead kinda like you'd put on an old Chevy Big Block. That way you have reliability and less weight.

I would get the same size as OEM. I tried measuring but cannot tell what size ours is. Also pay attention to the direction of the Blade Angles. Mine are in tha same direction as that pic of the 1500 but CourtesyParts is showing theirs reversed. Just make sure yours is the same as the one you decide to get. These used to be lighter than the OEM Steel blades but now that the OEM is plastic, it's supposedly the shape and design of the blades that are supposed to reduce drag. I suppose that the OEM Coupling that you'll be removing might be heavier than these fans but I dunno.

I'd also at least get Scr38's and CPaul's opinions before going through with it.

I don't know anything about them but I really like the fact that they have both Standard and Reverse Rotation Fans available in all sizes. These are exactly what I had in mind when first mentioning them but you will need find out which ones are compatible with our engines. I would go for one of the Aluminum Lightweight Flex fans if there's one that will work on our trucks.

Maybe you should just try contacting Flex-a-lite's technical support to find out which would be the best replacement fan or upgraded fan. That way there's no doubt on which to order.
