Is this normal? Last night when heading home from dinner we noticed that the temprature read out showed 50 degrees even though it was nowhere close to that temp. After a couple mins of driving the read out showed 63 degrees. Any idea? Or, should this go on the list of dealer items to check. The Mada only has 1000 miles on it.

i think this is normal, this i assume happened after you drove for quiet some time, the temp sensor then will be effected by the engine and radiator heat, it happened to me and after driving few miles it will go back to normal.

Mine usually takes a little while to adjust but it will usually get to the actual temp within about 5-10 mins. My question is, what was the actual temp outside, was it eventually close??

Outside temp was probably closer to 60ish, not 50 degrees as the read out said. Tonight we were leaving Best Buy and same thing, except this time the temp showed 40 and after driving a short time it stabilized at 54. Sounds like this might be the norm. Both times it changed ~13 from the time we started out to when it stabilized. I plan to ask the dealer when I take it in for it's first oil change. I would think that when it sits during a stop at a store that the sensor would read heat coming from the engine and the readout would be higher...but dropping 10 degrees baffles me.

Mine is usually about 10 off when it first starts too. Sounds pretty normal to me but it'd be good to ask them too.

My display on my Honda ST1300 does the same thing only the other way, starts out high and settles down, usually only a few degrees though.
