hey guys and gals, my service engine soon light came on a few days ago. It's an '06 with just over 11,000 miles on it. Servicing isn't due for about another 700 miles, is this the "norm" for the light to be on? The rig feels and drives the same. Thanks in advance.

i love this trick for getting the code.

9 times out of ten your gas cap isn't tightened all the way. I've had a whole lot of people tell me they are pissed because they have to take their car in for service and I tell them to check their gas cap first. Every single on has come back the next day and thanked me for saving them a trip to the dealer. Of course then they think I'm some mechanically inclined person... that's when I deploy the "dumb-blank-stare":D

Can someone confirm if the method of checking the SES codes in the DIY section applies to 08 madas??

Maybe a dumb question but... If the vehicle is still under warranty, and I get a SES light, does the dealer check the code out for free?

Sure they will as long as the SES is not from any modifications you have done.

Autozone will read codes for free if you have them in your area.

A piece of the gas cap? Did it break or something?

Not a check engine light. Those are reserved mostly for intake / exhaust system. I do not own an 08, but I seriously doubt Nissan is using the check engine as an oil change warning light.

Take it to the dealer and find out. Make sure your gas cap is on properly first.

Actually I was going off of one of the previous posts here that said it didnt work for an 08. But I tried and it worked...

I checked my gas cap and I dunno if it was on right cuz I took it off then put it back on and didnt really pay attention... BUT the code I got was 0442

evap small leak it says... is that the gas cap or no? I cleared the code but Im wondering what that means in regular people talk...lol

Leaving the oil filler cap off will throw a code. You should be able to clear the code by following those instructions.

If it is under warranty the dealer has to diagnose. If it is due to a modification that you did- you should have to pay for it.

Otherwise--it is warranty- Stand your ground or find a new dealer

I got my code but I don't know what it means, it says 0174, Fuel sys lean B2, I just put on a cold air intake and throttle body spacer, could this have triggered it?? Any idea of how I can fix this?? I also was running premium for a while and just tried some regular and it went off when I went to regular, could that be it??

I didn't want to start a new thread for something that was already commented on, but I definitely would appreciate some feedback from those 'in the know' around here...

Two days ago my "Service Engine Soon", "ABS", and "SLIP" lights all came on, and stayed on, after I started the 'Mada. I stopped, turned it off, restarted and only the "Service Engine Soon" light stayed on.

First thought: gas cap. It was tight, but I took it off and tightened it again. Light still on.

Second thought: emissions issue(s). Looked at every emissions-related connection I could find, everything looks normal. Light still on.

Third thought: call the stealership. Have an appointment for tomorrow morning.

What I'd like to know is - does anybody have any tips regarding dealing with the stealership? You know, things I should watch out for so I don't get hosed in regards to this current issue... I've been hosed by this stealership before (they're the only one close to me), so my "hose-detecting-senses" are heightened.

Any thoughts / recommendations would be great!!

Thanks in advance,

~ Zire :D

P.S. I have an Injen CAI and Gibson cat-back.

You could do the procedure listed in this thread to read out the code. Post that code then we can give you some help.

Thanks scr38!! Unfortunately, I read your post too late...

Dropped it off at the stealership... U1000 code.

Found the link for this over on CT: http://www.clubtitan.org/forums/showthread.php?p=669486#post669486

Stealership didn't charge me to clean the grounds and reset code. Unfortunately, they did charge me for the service I approved beforehand and was due to have. Dang!

Thanks,

~ Zire :D
