Who is the MPG King?

Howdy ~ I'm wondering who is getting the best MPG? What modifications did you make to get there, and what was the total bill for those mods? Even though the "driving season" is over and gas prices have come down some what, I want to do some serious mods after spending $4/gallon all summer. My trip computer says I've averaged 13.6 over my first 30k miles in my '11 (split city, highway). This is my 3rd Armada, and I love it and will buy another, but that 13.6 has to change... Time to brag lads! Who's getting north of 18 mpg? north of 20 mpg? Thanks!

Per 10k miles, at $3.50/gal v. $4.00/gal, here's how the increases would save... it adds up quickly :)

MPG | Miles | $/Gal | $ on Miles | Savings
13.6 10,000 $3.50 $2,573.53
15.0 10,000 $3.50 $2,333.33 $240.20
17.0 10,000 $3.50 $2,058.82 $514.71
19.0 10,000 $3.50 $1,842.11 $731.42
21.0 10,000 $3.50 $1,666.67 $906.86

13.6 10,000 $4.00 $2,941.18
15.0 10,000 $4.00 $2,666.67 $274.51
17.0 10,000 $4.00 $2,352.94 $588.24
19.0 10,000 $4.00 $2,105.26 $835.91
21.0 10,000 $4.00 $1,904.76 $1,036.41

I once got 23 mpg hwy when my Volant intake was brand new, with the Ram Air Scoop accessory, SuperChips on gas saver mode, tires were new, and had pumped 91 octane Chevron Gas, cruise control at 75, 100% hwy.... Yea, that's rarely the case though. Lol it's usually 19 mpg hwy.
I've spent around $600 on those couple of mods.

Best improvement I've had so far is with the Airaid CAI. I recently switched from the Injen. Almost 2mpg with summer gas. Now with winter gas blends in the pumps I find my avg to be a little over 1mpg increase. Doesn't sound like much but your graph illustrates how many $$ that adds up to. Plus gas is over $5/gal up here. My driving is pretty much the same month to month and I've been logging mileage for almost 3 years so I'm confident this increase was due to the Airaid.

Cost was $260, I think. I was fortunate to get 15% off that plus $50 cash back promo they were running so my out the door price was $170. Running my tires at 35 front 33/34 rear.

i dont know how i manage but trip a couple of weeks ago from (Full tank) Wingers resturant in St George to the gas station in Ghost Town Rd in Yermo..266 miles with a ~1/4 tank left. just slightly under the mark. I could gone at least another 30 miles, maybe? this is with 4 adults and 4 kids. speeding 80+ when there isnt a traffic jam and a few traffic jams. so i said its pretty good gas mileage. the only mod i have is my CAI and a lift.

Steady cruising, best I've ever got is a tad above 17. Typical around 13 to 14 with a 50/50 mix of highway and street driving, with my wife driving. With the trailer, 9 to 10. Low fuel light comes on at about 220 miles. Bone stock, except for 2 degree timing advance.

Guys,

I am a new to the site and bought my first 2012 Mada last fall. I love it and was glad i was able to convince the wife to trade in the minivan :).

I knew the MPG would suck, but didn't realize how bad it is at times. I get about 14.3 city driving and 15.2 on the hwy. The funny thing is, I only get 15.2 on the hwy at 75-80 mph. If I go slower, i get worse MPG.

Can you help? I am a bit confused/lost on the 2 degree advance and what it as/does.

went on a 350 mile roundtrip yesterday and got 17mpg. Best I've gotten in awhile. Mixture of cruise control on and off. Kept speeds between 70-75. I agree with the previous poster, anything over 75 and the mpg drops.

Check out my Fuelly in my signature. I'm averaging 16.9 combined. I got close to 21mpg on my Vegas trip last year.

The last 6 weeks, we have done 99% local driving in town.
Getting 10 MPG indicated on the screen.

I am used to 17mpg mixed hwy / city. Incredible the difference.

But, I have been riding my scooter to work a lot the last couple months, getting almost 50mpg , so it evens out!

If you are serious about this, I will give you a few suggestions. One would be a CAI, but beware! If you drive it like you stole it, then it won't serve you the purpose you are looking for. Next would be a free flowing exhaust with LT headers. Stick with OEM tire size and 18" wheels, because… well, I don't think I need to explain further why they are bad for MPG. A good tune is necessary and last but not least, go full synthetics on your differentials, transmission and transfer case.

Filled up two days ago and happened to cycle through the MPG screen. I was sitting at 7.8. Then again that's a total of approximately 30 miles on tires sitting at 24 PSI. I passed a Ford F-150 stuck yesterday, a new Highlander and GMC Terrain both stuck today and just smiled at them. Can you tell that I'm driving on the beach? Try doing that in most other vehicles?

I don't have a computer in my Mada. I just write my miles down and fill up the tank and I make sure I keep track of how many gallons I'm putting in.

Ok so this morning on my way to work my Service Engine light came, I was like "dang" not 2day, I had already decided that I was going to drive down to California State Line to play Power Ball since my state don't do any lottery games (nv)and its up to $166million. Anyway after work I got on the Freeway it was a little backed up, after it cleared up I punch it to 75 switch my Fuel Eco. on reset it, it said 16mph so i set cruise notice fuel eco. going down to 14.1. So I took it off, using the gas pedal driving 75-80 mph I notice my mph going back up it hit 19.3. From work to state line 45mins. Anyone notice drop in mph with cruise on, mind you I was driving with my Service Engine Light on.Will be taking it to Auto Zone for free check up lol.

Sorry about your check engine light. Hopefully it is something simple.

As for the change or drop in mileage you saw, I think it is normal. The computer needs some time to give you a good accurate guess.

2day I took my baby to the doc for the check engine light diagnosis as follows she is showing Code P0442, some of the related symptoms. Faulty fuel cap, Purge system leak, Faulty canister vent control valve, Faulty purge control valve, Blocked purge control system. Anyone had this problem before or can tell where the Purge or canister is located. Thanks a Million!!!!!!!.
