First attempt with plasti dip on wheels wanted to leave the lip peeled a little to quick didn't get straight lines will be redoing them what you guys thing of the look?
Just saw this...let me help for others. The website does a good job explaining. When you have a hard edge between two surfaces (1/8" or more gap) you can let it dry and peel (windows). Where two surfaces meet, like the roof on my suburban, you have to tape and peel while still wet.
Once I get my Armada out of the shop, I am going to try this on all the chrome on it. Would like to try it on my factory rims once I get a good weekend to do it.
I had my new trail grapplers put on my wheels with the plasti dip on. It held up pretty good on the wheels. The only part that needs to be touched up is around the lug nuts. That came off a little bit but not too bad.
Just got done plasti dipping all my badges, and my door handles. Not sure its going to hold up on the door handles real well, since i didnt have a lot of time to let it set up befor i had to leave for work. I can already see a little spot wanting to pull up.
I have done it both ways, wheels on and off. With the Armada wheels, there aren't a lot of deep crevices or undercuts. This makes it easy to get complete coverage without removing them. The trash bag method works great.
I've been wanting see how the mada looks with dipped wheels. How long does it usually stay? How often will you need to reapply? In my area, the temps are starting to rise (90's-100's), not sure if temps affect plasti-dipped stuff.
I did mine with them off first, mostly because I changed the rotors, but when I redid them I just did the trash bag method, with the 22s it worked great and I was able to keep the lug nuts from getting messed up putting them back on.
Mine has been in for a few yrs now. Through desert heat, long drive, off-road, snow, car wash. I haven't reapply and still looks good. I did do an alignment and the guy scuff the outter edge. But not that noticeable. Take the wheels off is easier.
I am just going to stick with the wheels. I have the dark brown metallic paint (it looks black unless the sun is shining on it) so I think it may look a little out of place to cover all the chrome.
I got around to doing some plasti-dip on my tailgate last night like I've wanted since I brought her home. Results turned out pretty well. I've got more plasti-dip mods planned so stay tuned.
I dipped the front emblem to match the rear design, but also got creative with the front bumper to alter the appearance to be more sporty/off-road themed. I haven't seen any other Mada bumpers dipped this way so hopefully you like the results.

If you leave a gap at the tape edge, you don't have to hurry and pull the tape off before it dries. You can take your time and let the dip dry proper first.
Mine doesn't look as good as others (mikeutah, that looks badass), but i'm happy with how it turned out. Being a black SUV I wasn't super concerned about over spray.
Here she is all torn apart and prepped for plasti dip.
In case anyone is considering doing the emblem and grill but leaving the bumper... I did it for a while but the my "plasti dip job" was pretty bad so I stripped it off and did the whole front.
Hey fellas,
I'm new to the forum and I just bought a 2008 Armada SEnmaybe 3 weeks ago. So yesterday I decided to play around with a little plasti dip. Just did the headlights, tail lights and the front bumper.
