Ok... This is happening on and off with my 2004 for the last year and I can't figure it out. mainly while towing after a few hours of driving (hot engine) also happened a bit during the past winter even when not towing.
Under hard acceleration while pulling a load, usually up hill on the highway the truck will appear to go into limp mode occasionally.
It bogs down and sputters and will not accelerate over 2000-3000rpm. It just feels like it has no power at all. Shift into Neutral while driving; key off and restart engine. Problem gone... but it comes back. Sometimes it will keep repeating every couple minutes continually and other times restarting it once it is good for another hour+ of the trip. No warning lights on dash. Have a code reader that does engine (P) codes only, no (P) codes, green light showing OK.
Changed and cleaned the MAF sensor, Problem comes up with either MAF sensor installed.
I know this is a very common problem with this vehicle. Many posts suggest to IPDM. Changed the relay as suggested by other posters and the recall. Still happening
Some have said limp mode can happen when on the brakes? or a brake light short? It doesn't happen when I use the brakes, it just happens randomly on its own. Should I try replacing the brake pedal switch that goes to the ECU?
Any other ideas? Kinda stuck as most people with this problem seem to have way worse symtoms than I am experiencing, ie total engine failure, dash lights on, malfunctioning gauges, etc... I am experiencing none of the above.. It's really frustrating when I get stuck going up a hill on the highway and even the semi's are passing me as I can barely maintain 30mph with the RV when this happens
