Rear Suspension Rebuild

Fun Stuff... Yesterday I ordered a pair of Radflo from PRG and a pair of non-Tow springs from NAPA. Someone on here said that NAPA discontinued the springs but the counter guy told me they show stocked in some central warehouses. If they don't come in for some reason, a dealership will sell me OEM springs for $20 more, so no big deal. It floors me that the stupid things are costing $180/pair after negotiating, springs just shouldn't be that expensive. Dealership full retail price was something like $140/ea, that's just stupid rediculous, IMHO.

After I get a good look at the springs, I will be looking at Air-Lift -vs- Firestone -vs- anything else for the helper springs. I am planning to powdercoat the coil springs anyway so there will be no rush.

The secondary pair of Radflo that I am wanting still have too much lead time to mess with right now so I'll just mess with them later. To prevent confusion for anyone who's new to the site reading this, I have 4-shocks in the rear for a total of 6-shocks on the vehicle.

Here's a couple videos of the ride. The background noise is my Dog panting:

I added Timbren Bumpstops Part# NRARM then towed my trailer 30 miles to storage yesterday. I was skeptical when installing these but then pleasantly surprised when I towed with them. These were the secret ingredient. The AirLift 1000 bags are so weak even at their full PSI that I found I was actually still riding on full bumpstops when towing. These Timbren do very well at picking up the slack. Here's a link and pics, the rear squat when towing is at pretty much the same level as it was with the OEM Air-Shocks:

Pops, How has the project come? Have you had the chance to tow with the new bags? I've been experiencing a very harsh ride in the rear of our Armada. The stock shocks still hold air but the dampening feels bad. Bridge expansion joints, road heavs are brutal in our truck. Do you know what the weight capacity of the stock shocks are? I'd wonder if the Air Bag It kit would work nice with some nice Monroe Reflex Shocks. Not sure what route to take. I could just through a new set of stock shocks on the back but i'd like to make a "real" improvement, one that will last for a long time. Thoughts?

Got the correct length Radflos on yesterday, it rides like a dream now. I towed the TT today and I think my OEM compressor is dead because it did not try to come on so it looks like I'm going to have to add the manual fill valves.

Yeah I'm ready to tear off those crappy air shocks. I want to keep the auto leveling. No sure If I want to swap in the Air Bag It Air bags? If those Air Lift helper bags work, I might just go that route. Hoping that getting new shocks will smooth out the ride in the rear. I rode in the back seat a month ago and it is terrible. Could feel every rode imperfection and bumps in the road hurt you a**. I'm convinced once I get the rear freshened up and a good alignment I'll be all set. Has any used the Monroe reflex shocks? Those have multi-valving and worked good on other FullSize Trucks and SUVs I've owned in the past.

Yea, I'm kinda stressed right now so I'm having to watch what I say because I'll mean one thing but it comes across as something entirely different because I'm not choosing my words well. At home I'm keeping my mouth shut unless there's a nice compliment coming out of it. -lol....

Excellent home policy! Good luck with the rebuilds/repairs. :)

The OEM jack bends and collapses. I've dropped the truck twice from that jack turning into a pretzel so you need to be sure to use a heavy duty jackstand. But yes, wrenches are all that's needed. These are like the ones I use rated at over 6,000-lbs each:
