with the vehicle in park and the parking brake engaged, should I be able to watch what is playing from the factory DVD system?

you would need the nav2go unit installed in order to watch what's playing on the dvd on to your nav display screen

Was that something that changed with the 2008 model? I can watch the dvd with the car in park and brake engaged.

2004-2007 models you cant add the bypass mod. 2008 and newer you can.

To clarify, I didn't have to do any mods to bypass. The original poster is asking if the car is parked and parking brake on, can he watch dvd's on the front screen. In my 2008, this is possible with a stock configuration. Although I have since added a bypass, I know for a fact this worked pre-mod. Just asking if this didn't work pre-2008? I don't understand why they wouldn't allow you to display on the front screen when parked and parking brake engaged.

OP has a 2006 model. things changed in 2008 and up.
