City Parking Garage Height clearance

Hi All,
I am new here and Just purchased 2013 Platinum Armada. I live in PA. I was wondering if anyone has had difficulties with city parking garages with low ceiling clearance? Many of them in Philadelphia, Atlantic City, NYC have those hanging bars at around 6'1"-6'4". I believe my Armada is 78" or 6' 6" tall. I have been told that you can hit those hanging bars and still fit in the garages, but i don't want to risk it. I have been driving a Jeep Commander for past 6 years - that was about 6'-1" and i never had a problem. Any feedback is appreciated!

I can't fit in 95% of parking garages. Not sure what the standard height is, but welcome to CA.

That may be because you sit a "little" taller in the saddle than most of us!

Re: City Parking Garage Height clearance

When I was at stock height I didn't have any issue. I think I fit in 6'6". But now I avoid it all. LOL

You might wanna measure your clearance to be sure. I usually just lay a 2x4 centered across a roof rack rail sticking out on both driver & passenger side then I measure from the ground to the bottom of the board. Mine is sitting at around 6'11" right now.

Some of the city garages in my area are 6' 6" but I won't risk it. Went to Whistler with my low profile Yakima ski racks with boards and hit the low hanging garage door hardware in a 7' garage. I measured before leaving home and it was just at 7' so I think you run the risk of catching something if you're not careful. Also, In many garages, I noticed lots of low hanging plumbing wrapped in insulation that had been damaged in some areas from being hit. That tells me that they made it past the warning bar, through the garage door opening but still managed to hit something.

Re: City Parking Garage Height clearance

I also wanted to add that some garage said 6'6"+ but when you enter it, the incline grade changes which makes it shorter then stated. Vegas has a few of these. Asked Armadeous lol, he found out the hard way even though it said 7'.

Thanks everyone for your input. Where possible, i will probably use the garage Valet services and regular parking lots rather than garages.

Garage
FWIW, I often get special parking. A shopping mall here locally lets me park on the grass when I need to and Hotels in Chicago and Vegas have often let me just leave it parked in the breezeway next to the front entrance of the hotel. But if parking at work was in a low parking garage then I would've had a problem.

Here, this might help you feel a little better about yours:
