I've been hanging out with a CT member today and we just finished cutting the inner tube out of our intake boxes. This allows air to flow through your stock intake box with less restrictions. To me, it feels almost like an additional 2* Timing Advance except now I also get a quicker throttle response when going to pass someone at 70 mph on the turnpike.
It's free and easy to do and I would recommend this for the exact same reasons as the 2* Timing Advance. Here's pics of the mod and rubber that I laid down on the pavement.

Great idea. Do you notice any sound difference? I would think it's slight if any. I'm sure people would never think that a truck as beasty as the Armada laid down those black stripes on the concrete!!!

Definitely when flooring the pedal. It does sound kinda like a CAI. Very noticeable when flooring the gas with the windows down. With the windows up, it's fairly noticeable, and no difference when granny driving. So, just don't romp on it with wifey riding along and you're good to go.
i already did this mod awhile back.. you canactually pull that whole tube thing apart fron the box. then you will have better access to cutting it and it will look alot cleaner. i also went a bit further and cut the resonator tube off of the main intake tube and capped it with a peice of the plactic i cut off with pvc pipe glue. i'll go look for the thread now.
Looks like an easy mod. What did you use to cut it?
First thoughts were to use a dremel and shop vac to suck up the shavings?

well i have further enhanced my stock intake mod. i have actally cut out the entire bottom half of the air box. the only part i left back was the actual mounting hole so i could bolt it back in. i have a k&n filter in it, so it will be o.k. i didn't like the fack that i was drawing in hot engine air, so i got some sheet metal and bent up and air duct to try and draw in colder air. well it works and it sounds like an aftermarket intake. i know there is definently an increase in power. i just got in mimulak tbs and installed it. i think i feel a difference. lol!! alos, i did do the 2 degree timing and man, it really makes a difference.
I used a heat gun with box knife and that's why doesn't look too good.
I'd REALLY like to know an easy way to get the 3rd bolt off that's under the entire box so I can take the whole thing out to use a hack saw to get it straight and really clean before reassembling. I tried to take the whole box out at first and, not that it's needed but, a spacer fell out that I cannot get back in unless the whole box is removed. I also have the K&N filter but it honestly didn't seem to make a difference from the stock paper one when I installed it.
<Edit: Updated Info> I've done a couple more since using the Dremel with Shop Vac and it works great.
to remove the lower box, unbolt the two bolts that you can get to, then just simply pull up and out.. i would honestly think that the k&n has to perform better than stock. just the way of its construction compared to the paper filter, you can see a difference in why it would perform better. also, i was told by a few buddys of mine, the titan and mada forums, and personal experience that the computer would have to adjust for the "HUGE, ENORMOUS, MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF AIR PRODUCED BY THE K&N FILTER"(LOL)!! nah j/k but i beleive that it's true that the computer has to adjust. I THINK?!
I've had the K&N in for over 3 months now. Keep in mind that my paper filter was still pretty clean when I removed it. I only installed the K&N to keep from buying a new air filter every other time I changed my oil.
Up and Out??? Is the bolt on an open ended bracket to slide off of or something??
