External USB HD problem

I'm trying to use an external HD (2.5") enclosure, but the armada can't seem to read it. I formatted in FAT32, per manual, and it powers up, but system won't read USB drive (won't even list files).

Has anyone gotten a USB drive (as opposed to a simple usb stick) to work? Is it an issue of power draw? I want 1TB+, so USB sticks won't work for me.

I haven't tried it yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a power issue.

There is another member on here who mentioned he has a USB and installed tons of movies on it for his kids or maybe for the grand kids. If I find that post I can let you know or if he sees this your post maybe he can help.

He did not mention how big the USB he is using is. But I am thinking maybe he got his to work. So maybe he can share what he did to make his work. Because I think that will be great if the USB can read from your drive.

That may have been me. I'm using a 128 GB thumb drive. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BGTG2A0...ing=UTF8&psc=1)

Out of curiosity, I looked in the manual and I can't find anywhere where it say you cannot use a external drive. However, it does explicitly reference 'USB Memory' and IPOD compatibility.

Looks like I may have to setup a plex server/client in the 'Mada.

I have to convert my movies into DIVX format and I'm seeing about 1G per movie (+/-). Using a thumb drive, I should be able to get 100 movies on my thumb drive which for me is plenty to keep the Grandkids entertained.

I ended up mounting a raspberry pi 2 and using the rear aux for the input. Great flexibility to play any format when using Kodi as the media player.

So you have a raspberry pi handling your hard drive and then outputting the content into the RCA jacks on the back console? Interesting... How's the video quality?
