Just got Fios

Just had Fios installed this morning. Holy crud, it's fast!!! Like night and day compared to what we had before (Verizon DSL). $49.99 a month for Internet (15/5) and telephone, so we actually are paying less than we used to with DSL and our previous phone service. Big thumbs up to Fios!!!

Yeah I miss my fast connection when I lived near Sacramento. My local phone company ran fiber optic to my neighborhood. I bought the 25Mb up/down package bundled with my cable service and was paying a little over $100 a month.

Any time I speed tested, I was generally hitting 30 down and about 60 up. It was crazy fast.

FIOS is the best; hands down!!!

15.97 Download

5.33 Upload

This is on a wireless network. Probably much faster when directly connected to the router.

comcast has speed boost which uses avail bandwidth during certain times of the day.

any bandwidth testing site is trivial at best. those speeds are not sustained speeds and you will see (fios, cable internet) the speeds ramp up really high but then settle.

also the more people that are on your node will also determine your speeds.

bottom line, fios and cable are WAY faster than DSL and dial up but both cable and fios have excellent speeds.

and ooh unless you have a business with multiple computers running websites, you dont need a LOT of speed. you can have 1000000 MBPS but if your network at home and computers are not able to crunch numbers fast, you will still get slower speeds.

if i pick the right server, my mobile phone can get 35mpbs down.

dont trust the bandwidth sites...
