Questions on Floor Jack and Stands

Hello all,

I am thinking about getting 1 or more floor jacks and some stands and I wanted to get some opinions from everyone on a couple things:

1. What brand(s) should I stay away from?
2. What brand(s) should I be looking for?
3. What weight should I be looking for the floor jack(s) to handle? 2 Ton? 3 Ton?
4. What weight should I be looking for the stands to handle?
5. It appears the Stands are pretty much all the same design, if I am wrong styles to look for? styles to stay away from?

My rig is lifted 2-2.5 inches.

Thanks for everyones help on this! I've been looking and reviewing online so much my head is all boggled.

Hey Koosh,

I bought 3 ton stands from an autoparts store for around $30ea on sale. No particular brand, they had many but I went with middle of the road price...not too cheap and not too expensive. They get the job done. My only issue is that with my stock height I have to jack the truck up pretty high to get them underneath. You shouldn't have that problem with your lift. The 2 ton stands were smaller but I wasn't sure if 2T would have been ok. Hopefully, someone with more experience will advise on that. Usually I just use 2x6's at the end of my sloped driveway and drive up on them for oil changes etc. The stands are just for brake and suspension work.

Still thinking of moving south of the 49th? I still have your roof rack when you make the trip down!

Drew

Hey Drew! Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking the stands are pretty basic designs (only so many ways you can put those together). I'm leaning the same way you are about 3ton stands over 2ton... better to have extra capacity than be right at capacity..

Yeah we are still looking to move, but realistically wont be this year... too many unexpected costs came up. My brakes stopped working on the Mada and have to figure out what the exact cause is to fix it. I kinda hope it's not the ABS module that needs to get reflashed because there aren't any Nissan dealerships remotely close to us.

Bummer about the brakes, Koosh. Is it still driveable? That's one problem I hope I never come across with the Mada. Hope you get that resolved!

I'll hold on to the racks for you...no prob!

lol thanks for the link Richard. I have been thinking of getting one our two nice big hydraulic floor jacks. i'm tired of cranking on the factor scissor jack forever to lift up the mada... yeah i'm kinda lazy sometimes.

yeah, the pfd, it's not always 1k... sometimes more sometimes less. the cost of living, severely limited shopping of pretty much anything, and the cost of just going on a nice vacation not to mention the inability to even drive out of the city have all taken a toll on us.

I was born and raised here but I went south for school and found out what we were missing. lol

oh yeah I forgot about the fact that it rains ANY day of the year and for Weeks at a time.

yeah it is definitely not driveable. pretty sure lost all my betake fluid now... passenger rear brake line started leaking and not sure if that is the result or a cause yet... hopefully I'll be able to pull codes of the truck tomorrow and find our if I have to ship it north to Anchorage or south to Bellingham/Seattle.

Geez! That sounds like it s going to be expensive! I'm doubting another brake issue would cause the line to leak. However, a loss of fluid could cause all sorts of problems. Have you tried to replace the leaking line and bleed the system? Cheap and worth the effort before sending it off to a dealer. They might find all sorts of other "problems" you didn't even know about! Perfect time to replace with stainless braided lines, too!

That's exactly what I'm doing Drew. I've been hunting around on the internet trying to scare up the best deal (shipping SUCKS to AK). I'll also be putting new rotors and pads on the front.

Today, hopefully, I'll be able to scan the truck with a code scanner to make sure there aren't any other issues going on.
