2008 Procedure for 2 degree timing advance

Many of us have had good results advancing the initial timing by 2 degrees. Listed below is the procedure to make the advance, using the Consult 3. You will need a Nissan dealer to do this. You should print out the procedure and take it with you to the dealer.

Warm up vehicle.

After consult3 has connected to car :
1. Press Wrench sign upper Right side of screen.
2. Press ECM/Wrench sign just below Large Wrench sign
3. Press Engine / OK
4. Work Support
5. Engine Timing at bottom of list
6. Follow prompts to +2
7. Press UPDATE
!!!!!! make sure they actually hit the UP-DATE BUTTON !!!!!!
or it will not save..
Make sure engine is at normal operating temp. & also good to reset
Idle air volume relearn to @ 650 rpm with a/c off & steering wheel straight..

Pops,
I need to go to the dealer for an oil change shortly, so I wanna run this by the tech there and maybe slip him a $20. Has the procedure changed or will these work still? Also should the car be turned on/off? Reason i ask is because you stated this:

Make sure engine is at normal operating temp. & also good to reset
Idle air volume relearn to @ 650 rpm with a/c off & steering wheel straight..

Thanks for your help. jP

My MPG improved a bit after doing it. It really depends on your driving habits more than anything.

My mileage definitely improved when I am not being aggresive in my driving. Vehicles runs more efficient and the accelerator is more responsive. However, if you are a little on the aggresive end of the spectrum and love to speed (which my leadfoot havin' @$$ got a ticket recently), you will experience a little drop in MPG.
