Rear camera mis-aligned out of the blue

Until today evening my rear backup camera was working perfectly. The camera was last replaced by the dealer in Feb 2013 when it stopped working.

Today when backing up in the night I noticed the "parking assist" lines (red, yellow, green) were all over the place and camera had a bit of static. I drove the car for a bit and later noticed the camera was mis-aligned. I have attached a picture.

Anyone come across this issue before? I have searched the forums for this issue but had no luck. I will try the below tomorrow to see if there is any camera diagnostic.

OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Start the engine.
2. Turn the audio system off.
3. While pressing the “SETTING” button, turn the volume control
dial counterclockwise 30 clicks or more.

difficult to tell the quality of the image, but it looks more like sensor issues rather than a misalignment. could be the camera control unit but it may be the actual connection to the ccu could be faulty and/or the actual camera sensors itself.

can you take a better photo but this time tap on the screen of your camera phone so it reduces the iso/shutter speed so the image is properly (or better) captured.

Now that I look at the factory service manual it appears that the camera control unit is in the luggage side finisher lower LH. From my other thread I mentioned the rear wiper hose is leaking and water is entering the trunk area if I use the rear wiper.

Looks like water probably made the CCU wet or damaged it

Hi,

So the only thing I see that may be an issue is the vertical gray looking line on the right side of the screen yes? That does not look like a camera mis-alignment to me.. yeah looks like an issue with he camera sensor and/or CCUm and yes the CCU is on the drivers side back over near the fuel door area around thereabouts.

Possible the CCU is getting some moisture, but the only way to know is to remove the rear finisher and inspect. You’ve the service manual so you are already well ahead of the game..

Any idea if the CCU connector could be corroded?

If I replace the CCU if there any programming involved or is it just plug n play?

best to visually check to see if there is any corrosion. it may simply be that the connector is not attached securely.

never replaced the ccu so I can't say. if you grab the service manual (just search for it on the internet) you can read up on the audio/video section and see what requirements are to be done.

Well it appears that after a few days the unit or connector has dried completely. The camera is back to normal as per attachment

Obviously there is something wrong and it may still be worth a weekend task to remove the finisher back there and visually inspect...
