Transmission Fluid Advice

Hey everyone! I am new to this forum and also a recent Armada owner. I need some advice specific to transmission drain and fill(s). To give a very brief background, I recently purchased a 2008 Armada SE with roughly 96,000 miles about a month ago. I am typically a nervous wreck buying any used car, let alone a 4 year old truck with 96k. My wife loved it at first sight and that was that. Anyway, I immediately changed the motor oil, diff fluid, and have now done 3 transmission drain and fills assuming the worst of the previous owner and that the fluid has never been changed. The fluid looked extremely dark, similar to used motor oil on the first drain. It only drained about 3.75 qts which from the general consensus on this site seems low. I filled the same amount, and repeated the process over the next 3 days for a total of 3 complete drain and fills. On my last drain and fill today, I dropped the pan, cleaned it out and replaced the gasket. The pan did have some gunk on the magnets and a film on the bottom of the pan but was not as bad as I expected. This drain got 4.75 qts out. My question is, after 3 drain and fills the fluid coming out is still very dark. I have been saving a sample per drain in a clear bottle marking, 1st, 2nd and 3rd to see the color difference. There is a slight difference with each sample but it is not where I want it to be. I wanted to avoid the flush method because A. I have heard many horror stories, and B. now that I have spent roughly $150 in Matic S fluid I didn't want to spend that again buying all new fluid. If you were in my position, would you continue to do a couple more drain and fills over the next month or two or would you just go ahead and flush it all out? I am really not sure how bright this fluid should look when coming out, but after 3 drains it still looks very dark. If I should continue the drain and fill a couple more times, how many miles should I wait between drains? What would you do in my position now? Any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thanks,

Jason

I would think you've already done well enough. I have 112k miles and only did one drain and fill.

I just did my 3rd, at 150,000 miles when I added the big transmission pan. Bright red fluid the other day when I replaced a trans cooler line. Been using Amsoil ATF since the first fluid change.

I would side with Bob, and say you have done enough. If you still have concerns, then wait 30k miles and do another one.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the input. One thing I did forget to mention was I have been using Matic-s this whole time, but last night on my 3rd fill, I was short of fluid(thought I had an extra qt). I had to run to autozone and buy a qt of Castrol multi import ATF which many people on this forum state have caused problems. I only used 3/4 qt to top off, but do you think this is enough to cause issues? I think given it is such a small amount it should be ok but I know you're not supposed to mix fluids. Thoughts?

Thanks!
