changed front differential fluid
So i could no longer wait for the gear oil pump and other fluids i've ordered (rear dif and transfer case) to arrive because i was very bothered by not knowing if any maintenance has beed done to my 07 armada. I had lucas 75w-90 full synthetic sitting around from another auto so i decided to drain and replace the front differential. Glad i did! It came out looking a dark silver metallic color and was very sludgy. I had to get creative when refilling. I squeezed as much as i could out of both bottles into the fill hole, consolidated into one bottle and then squeezed in as much as i could out of that. Then i got creative. I used some clear tubing and routed it down beside the engine and into the front differential. I taped the tube to the bottle of lucas and let it gravity feed for a few minutes because my hands were tired of squeezing. You'll have to poke a little vent hole in the bottle. Once my hands came back i continues to squeeze covering the vent hole in the bottle to keep pressure pushing the fluid out instead of blowing air out the vent hole. As you can see in two pictures I used a piece of tape to secure the clear tubing so it wouldn't pull out of the differential while i was up above squeezing. All in all it was a VERY simple process. I used Teflon tape on the drain and fill plug because i couldn't find my high temp thread locker or i used it all up when rebuilding my quad. Thank you to all the CA members who tackled this job and posted info which gave me the confidence to do it myself. Dealer wanted $35 a differential.
